Can we please stop with the politics?

Submitted by MichiganFan1984 on

Can we please stop with the politics. This site is getting ridiculous. I’m not talking about the front page stuff from Brian, I’m talking about the blatant political talk by so many people in many of these threads. I don’t care how you feel politically and I’m getting sick of being subjected to seeing this in a good chunk of threads. The subtle interjection by some to try and say how they feel is pathetic. This is a call for the mods to please start banning people who have to run their mouths about their political beliefs. At the very least please start a separate area for political conversation so the people who can’t help themselves can go there. Be kind to each other everyone and stop putting your angry comments in threads to try and get your point across. The vast majority of us don’t come here. Better idea, have an open mind and talk with friends about it, not random internet people. PLEASE STOP RUINING THE BLOG I LOVE!

Downvoted because of the lame teaser title. Any title with an ellipsis is terrible. If the title is actually informative, people can avoid the topics they don’t like.

A rule on par with no politics, which  you chose to blatantly disregard.

That's not the point.  The point is there is a rule on this board of no politics.  However,  the mods give silent consent by posting front page political columns. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.  I just don't want it on my sports page. I come here to escape that,  now it's even permeating here.

This is a blog of people, not rules. Our Founding Father set it up this way for a reason.

I was here before you, so I own it more. I am an mgoblogger, you're a reader of some other blog and will always remain so. You think you can come through our porous registration page and insidiously change our blog!? Go back to your own blog!

The founding fathers put rules in place to keep this website secure.  However, for the rules to work, the mods that represent us must use these rules.  If the current moderating body is too scared of their user base to hold the current administration accountable for its many egregious violations of blog law, then the whole thing just falls apart.

Not to mention, voting on these posts has been tampered with.  It is clear that our voting system has been compromised.  It doesn't really look like the current administration of this site is doing anything to protect our liberties.

Also, will you guys stand up for the Muppet Hawaiian War Anthem?!? This is MGoBlog!  Love it or leave it!

I think it’s just the natural of result of having multiple political posts on the front page. Seems to be another thing that has gone by the wayside along with making tables and editing posts to name a few.

What is this? I don’t like change!

"Multiple political posts on the front page"

Uhh... one in a year during the dead sports period?  And a local election post, not something along the much more devisive national party lines.  Something with a clear title than very easily could have been avoided.

Here's my problem with politics:  People don't talk enough about it in a civilized way, which is why you need a no-politics rule.  But Brian's post - which was well argued (even if you don't agree with the argument) - was clearly labeled, you had to click a jump early on to keep reading and if you delved into the comments that was also a choice you made.  Most people complaining about the post existing and "ruining where they go to avoid politics" could have just avoided the post.

It's important for people to see opposing viewpoints from time to time.  Living in echo-chambers doesn't help civil discourse.  But whining about hearing an opposing viewpoint (again, presented in a respectful way), is just that: whining.

Exactly... It needs to be 100% no politics regardless of poster or what we have now. There was an endorsement for a democrat... that, if anything, produces a political acceptance of that ideology. Once it starts, it will snowball slowly.

If you don’t think the do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do posts by Brian have a direct cause and effect relationship to the uptick of political posts in the board, I don’t know what to tell you.

A hard, fast, 100% no politics/religion (even from the mods) rule was the smartest thing this board ever enacted.

I can't point to specific ones, but there have been a number of instances in the past where Brian had political content/narrative aside from the once a year local election stuff.  It's his blog, so obviously that's his prerogative, though.  As for the rest of us, I agree with the above that the "no politics" rule was the best rule this board ever had, but wish there actually had been a "no religion" rule, as well.
