Due to late-season collapses of the softball team (only 37.5 points for a 33rd place finish in the NCAA tournament) and baseball team (no points for missing the NCAA tournament), Michigan finished 16 points behind USC, the 4th place finisher in the Directors Cup standings and 12.25 points behind Texas, the 5th place finisher.

Thanks to Michigan women’s rowing (69 points for a 7th place finish), men’s and women’s tennis (64 points for the men’s 9th place finish and 50 points for the women’s 17th place finish), women’s water polo (60 points for a 5th place finish) and men’s track and field (52.5 points for a 20th place finish), Michigan’s spring season wasn’t a total downer because those points might’ve made the difference between finishing either ahead of or behind Ohio State for the full year.
