Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus

Submitted by The Granddaddy on

I am very sad. No source or embed because this site is still a flaming piece of trash for some inexplicable reason -- but you can find it on twitter, espn, anywhere.  It just became official minutes ago and confirmed by Real.

Time for Real to make another huge splash.

This is good for European football. Real Madrid made the Champions League boring. And honestly they'll probably still be one of the favorites this year without Ronaldo.

unless they're converting the Bernabeu in to a swimming pool I really don't see how Neymar will improve that roster. now MBappe... will they offer PSG 250+mill?

With Spanish taxes being what they are and how aggressive they are with top players I wonder if that will impact future big star signings. My guess is RM and Barca will overpay Yankees-style.

I’m not a huge fan of the site redesign, but I find it ironic that you are so thoughtlessly critical, yet you take the time to post about an OT topic (way OT, IMO) to the board you whine about being so bad.

Not me. Still in my ritual. But I might go a whole day between looking at the mgoboard. I just realized my biggest issue. I cannot easily access my own profile. So I can't go to the list of my comments and easily jump back into the conversations I'm having in different posts.

I just had to post in a new boardpost just to access my comments from yesterday...

Letter from Ronaldo.

Translation I found on reddit.

These years in Real Madrid, and in this city of Madrid, have been possibly the happiest of my life.

I only have feelings of enormous gratitude for this club, for this hobby and for this city. I can only thank all of them for the love and affection I have received.

However, I believe that the time has come to open a new stage in my life and that is why I have asked the club to accept transferring me. I feel that way and I ask everyone, and especially our followers, to please understand me.

They have been absolutely wonderful for 9 years. They have been 9 unique years. It has been an exciting time for me, full of consideration but also hard because Real Madrid is of a very high demand, but I know very well that I will never forget that I have enjoyed football here in a unique way.

I have had fabulous teammates in the field and in the dressing room, I have felt the warmth of an incredible crowd and together we have won 3 Champions in a row and 4 Champions in 5 years. And with them also, on an individual level, I have the satisfaction of having won 4 Gold Balls and 3 Gold Boots. All during my time in this immense and extraordinary club.

Real Madrid has conquered my heart, and that of my family, and that is why more than ever I want to say thank you: thanks to the club, the President, the directors, my colleagues, all the technicians, doctors, physios and incredible workers that make everything work and that are pending every detail tirelessly.

Thank you infinitely once more to our fans and thanks also to Spanish Football. During these 9 exciting years I have had great players in front of me. My respect and my recognition for all of them.

I have reflected a lot and I know that the time has come for a new cycle. I'm leaving but this shirt, this shield and the Santiago Bernabéu will continue to always feel as my own wherever I am.

Thanks to all and, of course, as I said that first time in our stadium 9 years ago: Hala Madrid!

It'll be cool to see him in the black and white stripes. I like that he's switching leagues and giving it a go with another team. I've always respected his abilities, but I always thought he was just hard to root for. His players tribune gave me a new perspective on him and had me rooting for him this World Cup.

This is good for European football, good for Juventus, good for Real Madrid... Champions League will have a new, less inevitable dynamic. Higuain will probably move on now, so will some of Juve's other players to cover the cost...

I'm excited about this one.

I always thought Ronaldo would retire as a Madrid player. The Galaticos had all time legends, but these Ronaldo led teams have the trophies to make the case for being the best Real squad assembled.

Interesting timing...

The cynic in me is wondering if he did it today to take away attention from Mbappe and his burgeoning Ballon d Or consideration..

Good for Juve, but not so good for Fiat workers. As I understand it, in order to afford the transfer fee (over $100mm) as well as the top of the scale wages that CR7 demands, Fiat agreed to contribute to the transfer fee (as high as 100%).

The factory workers at Fiat are asking the right questions...how come Fiat can afford to pay for CR7 but not increase wages for factory workers who haven't had a pay increase in 10 years...because Fiat has claimed to not have the money to do so. Converting the transfer fee into wages for factory workers would result in every worker receiving more than $200/month.

They had a chance, nearly pulled even with Juve late this year. But then Juve had that incredible combat against Inter and Napoli spit the bit the next day and it was over.

Juve's continued Serie A dominance is both boring and perplexing as there are a number of clubs there that really should be capable of challenging them and haven't.

It is perplexing. When I started seriously watching soccer in the mid 2000s, Inter was the team to beat. It was a battle to finish in the top 4 usually consisted of teams like Roma, Milan and Juve.

It almost seems like Juve have been winning Serie A for the past decade, but now teams like Napoli and Roma are in the top spots. It seems like Milan hasn't been the same since the match fixing scandal. Inter hasn't been that same since early 2010s.

It seems like both Inter and Milan have had management issues when the clubs were sold to foreign investors. It sounds like Milan is going to go through so major changes with their ownership group and board of directors.

Thus ends one of the great individual rivalries in the history of sports, Messi-Ronaldo. Two of the top five all time in their sport, playing for the two premier clubs.

I'm a solid Messi guy, but this is sad for this reason. Be nice if someone besides Real wins the CL, though if it's Juve I might throw up a little.

I am not an avid fan of soccer but I enjoy it. What I don’t like is all of the stars playing for 2 teams. Barcelona and Real Madrid have an embarrassment of riches.
