What's your plan?

Submitted by Mineral King on

9/1 is getting close!

What is your plan for that day? Are you going? Or are you just watching at home or bar? Who you watching with? Get your plan straight now. Time to get lit boys.

My plan is to be there with my boys and enjoy a beatdown of nd.

I'm planning to watch it on a large TV, in a dark room, alone. I will have two boxes: a happy box for a win and a sad box for a loss. Popeyes and Whiskey in both boxes. If my girl can tolerate me during this time, maybe she will watch with me.

I am supremely confident about this game today, but without fail I will feel like throwing up come kickoff.

Doc, you and I have the same plan. I am going to be in my basement, alone, with innumerable beers and wings. I know damn well that my wife will not be able to tolerate me (or I won't be able to tolerate the "remember, it's just a game" comments). My stomach is in complete knots prior kickoff regardless of who we are playing.

Yeah it's a mix of "can she stand being around my crazy ass?" and "can I stand her not understanding that this game is vital to my happiness for the next 4 days?". Do beer and wings pre- and in-game. Popeyes and whiskey to cool down. If we really look good and cruise maybe I'll get some ice cream too to really top off the cheat day.

Ditto. My wife is Filipina and has only been in the States since '10. However, in that time, she has become as addicted and emotionally invested (to both football and basketball) as even the most die-hard Michigan fan. I'm so damned proud of her!

So, it's wings with homemade hot sauce, various libations, a big screen and lots of screaming at the TV for us

My buddy is a huge ND fan and can get tickets through his work. He wants me to go. I just don’t know if I could handle it. I have been to the Big House for 5 games, but week a 1 opener on the road against ND might be too much for me. I get real weird during games like this. Lol.

I’m caught between 2 scenarios.

1.  Driving down to south bend, tailgate, and buying last minute tickets with the boys.

2.  Partying in my neighborhood and watching on a big screen in one of our garages

I’m one that is holding this team at arms length and am not entirely confident in a win at ND.  The thought of driving to south bend and losing and having to drive home hung over sounds terrible.  However, a win there would put me on a high like no other!

Partying at home sounds great too and I can go to bed at any time. Yeah. I’m getting old.

I agree with the code of conduct but the spirit of scolding you are deploying is ENTIRELY counter-productive. Nobody responds well to egotism and "Shame on you!" only makes the subjects of your scolding recoil and double down. If you actually cared to use your code to make the world better, you'd find a more humble way.

It doesn't matter what I plan now.  I can plan whatever I want but I will inevitably be too intoxicated by 5 PM on that day to pull off anything except "keep drinking and order Hungry Howies at like halftime."

Hopefully watching in solitude.

Last year vs Florida I was in Vegas at a pool party. I'm not sure if it was the combination of alcohol and edibles, or just nerves, but I wanted to puke the entire morning. Once Chase made the sack in the end zone and Furbush recovered it, I felt 100x better!

I'll be in my basement alone.  I'm not one of those "misery loves company" people and night games at ND have provided plenty of misery.

Maybe I'll grow a pair before 9/1, but right now the plan is to be in the turtle position alone.

Neighborhood tailgate and watching on a big screen.  Can’t stand watching in bars anymore cuz you can’t hear any analysis or commentators.  Drinks and food are better at home anyway...GO BLUE!

I'll be at the game with my Dad. It'll be my first trip to South Bend, although my Dad says he took me there when I was 5. I don't remember it at all and don't believe him but I'm not going to argue.

I work at ND. I will be encouraging all who attend/tailgate to please recycle, as will my polite student volunteers and interns. I will be wearing ND gear (they pay me to do so). I will then go home, CHANGE CLOTHING, and take my wife to the game clad in our Michigan gear. Go Blue!

I'll be there. I look forward to meeting some meathead ND fans. For some reason, all the ones I meet in Ann Arbor, through work, and socially are nice people.

I haven't been to UM / ND game since the 1990's, but was at everyone of them from '78 thru 90's.  Tailgating was very social and uneventful ... inside the stadium can turn ugly.  I will there for this year's opener and cannot wait !  Just cheer like hell for the Maize and Blue ignore the domer fans.

Go Blue!

Home, with my best buddy visiting me and my kids and wife watching. There will be beer and snacks. Then another game afterward.

I'm hoping to be off work in time to watch it from my couch with a cold Founders beer and a four-month old on my lap with her Michigan jersey on.

As somehow Michigan has lost the last 6 games I've gone to, and no others, I'm going to be staying home and rooting from my back patio.

Will see if this works.
