OT: Abuse Allegations at Ohio State now?

Submitted by CriticalFan on

In case the MSU story is too old and moldy, here's a new one:

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/07/jim-jordan-accused-of-ignoring-ohio-state-sexual-abuse-allegations.html

Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, a highly influential conservative and a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, has been accused by former Ohio State University wrestlers he coached in the 1980s and ‘90s of overlooking evidence and direct complaints of sexual abuse by the team doctor, [Richard Strauss, who died in 2005]

...

The university has also confirmed that Strauss has been accused of molesting former athletes in other sports programs, as well as former student patients.

So --- another "sexual abuse cover-up" story but this one involves a sitting Congressman.  And for good measure, that sitting Congressman is one of the more polarizing ones (on a national level).

This story is going to be a total mess.

Perhaps tangentially related, Wes Goodman, a staffer in Jordan's DC office kept a closeted life hidden from his wife as he hooked up with dudes regularly on Craig's List. He also sexually assaulted the teenage son of a Bible-thumping Freedom Caucus member at a Ritz Carlton.

He was later forced to resign from his seat in the Ohio state house after has his predatory behavior toward young men became public.

His conduct while in DC, like the good doctor at OSU, was a poorly kept secret and it's likely Jordan was aware of it.

Is it possible Jordan himself finds grappling with other men to be enjoyable? Is the 'ole "5 on 2" maneuver his favorite move?

I did enjoy Rosenstein's Harvard Law vs. Jordan's Capital Law rout last week -- that was a blowout!

Can't make this stuff up.

South Park guys were on 60 Minutes last year. IIRC they pretty much said they were thinking of taking the show in a different direction because what was actually happening IRL was crazier than anything they could come up with.

Ann Arbor politics is now national politics?

It's Brian's blog and he can do with it as he pleases.  I didn't know WE had the freedom to go ahead and post anything about politics that we want now.  Especially about an accusation that presents zero evidence to the allegations.

I guess times have changed, my friend.

First off, everything has turned politically.  There's always some kind political slant one way or another.  Secondly, the article targets a high publicized political figure in the House.  I don't know how much more political that could get.  Take a look at the comments below.  Third, like I said in my prior comment, the article doesn't provide one proof of evidence.  It's a pure, "take my word for it" type of article.  Why can't we wait until further information comes out before we start hanging people by the noose.  We're becoming a guilty before being proved innocent society.  It's a Judge, Jury, Executioner mentality simply because someone says something.

If it wasn't for a similar Indy Star article about Nassar, that guy would still be a free man.  Articles like this are what leads to other people having the confidence to come forward.

Also, this is an important article about our chief rival and a politician happens to be in the story.  Feels like a very "in bounds" article.

Except this isn’t a political blog. It’s a sports blog.

I understand your premise but this isn’t the right place for it. We get plugged full of nothing but politics throughout our entire news cycle. Everything else around us has already been politicized and turned into an “us vs. them” mentality. There is no middle ground anymore. You’re either with us or against us. One of many reasons why I hate politics and both political parties in this country.

I come here to escape that bullshit. Don’t take away one of the few havens I have left.

This is just one end of the pendulum swing. Give it 2-6 years and it will swing back the other way. The one silver lining to this country’s current administration is that it has energized the left to a level that was not seen 18-24 months ago. A lot of people who didn’t vote in 2016 are sure as hell going to be heading to the booth in 2020.

If you don’t like your administration or your representative, if you don’t think they’re listening to you, then vote them out of office. You very much have that right, and that’s not going away. I don’t think that would be the case in a fascist country.

In between episodes of Hannity, you may want to look up the definition of “fascist.”

this site has gone to hell.  Thanks Brian.  Now go ahead and ban me here like you did on twitter when i teased you for saying Speight was a Heisman candidate.  According to this guy, that would be fascism too!

Wake up, man, please. Donald Trump started his campaign attacking the "other". He attacks anyone and everyone who dares speak out against him, no matter how miniscule the insult. And he has no problem meeting with fascist dictators (Duterte, for example just to name one). I wouldn't say we're in fascist territory yet but he has fascist tendencies and that is scary.

If you think Hillary is corrupt just please open up any newspaper or turn on any channel (that is not Fox News) and just see the egregious corruption this administration perpetrates on this country everyday. If it doesn't disturb you, it should. Also Hillary Clinton is an employed woman living in upstate New York. The IRS was a non-scandal blown up by the conservative media apparatus and the DOJ/FBI did a real bang up job working against Trump to hand him the election.

I said it on here the other day.  I don't criticize the president because he is Republican, I criticize him because of his abhorrent behavior.  That should alarm anyone, regardless of party.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

You took it there. You guys are complete clowns, and borderline cult members at this point. There is nothing that can be said at this point to anyone who is dug in like "you people" seem to be. So where do we go from here? Discourse has become completely dishonest in every conceivable way, in order to seemingly "win" the argument to your side. This is happening across the board, left and right, but one side is taking it to a very new and very dangerous extreme. Which side is that, now? So again, where do we go from here?

I'd posit that most of "you people" have become brainwashed at this stage. I really believe that, I've witnessed it first hand (as have most of us, I'd think). When you only listen to thing that fit your world view, and immediately shut out everything else as noise, or "the other", how can anything work itself out? How can a society grow?

I don't know why the fuck I'm writing this here, to someone making the statement that you did. But here I am. I can't comprehend how you guys can support this "man". It's crazy. It's scary.

I generally agree, but sometimes politics and sports cross.  This is a reasonable story to post and it is reasonable to point out that one of the key figures is in congress.  We shouldn't go overboard with the politics therein.

Sort of like how it was mentioned that Bill Scheutte the Michigan AG running for governor that is investigating everything MSU is BFFs with Dantonio...it is fair to wonder if he would do a thorough job due to the friendship.

I’m with you 100%. I had to delete Facebook and Twitter because it’s so toxic anymore. I’m sick of “two sides” thinking they are more moral than the other. Both parties in this country have done pretty horrible shit. I’m sick of it and sick of the 6 year old kind of talk back and forth name calling people do anymore.

It would please me to see that hypocritical POS go down in a ball of flames.

But, given his district, they'd likely replace him with someone equally as bad.
