OT - World Cup Final Day of Round of 16
So today is the last day of the Round of 16. The quarterfinals matches that are already set are:
Uruguay-France
Brazil-Belgium
Russia-Croatia
The final quarterfinal matchup will be set once today's games are complete:
10 ET - FS1 - Sweden v Switzerland
2 ET - FOX - Colombia v England
Don't really care who wins the first matchup, but I'm pulling for Colombia. I would love a South American Final of Uruguay-Colombia. But really, I'm pulling for anybody that isn't France, Brazil or England at this point.
I would also add that both matches are on Telemundo, which might be the better viewing experience even if you can't understand Spanish.
So much truth here. I've enjoyed the last couple of Gold Cups on Telemundo and Univision. It is more exciting to watch as long as you don't have a dog in the race.
what a snoozer of an opening matchup. Oh well.
As a Michigan fan, how can you root against les bleus?
Because I'm rooting for teams that haven't won it before, with the exception of Uruguay. I just really like them.
Rooting for Uruguay with Suarez is like rooting for the Bruins with Marchand - blasphemy.
Luis Suarez - great player, total headcase.
I call him Bitey
Bitey says 'Hey!'
Always reminds me of Donkey from Shrek.
He's got the teeth for it...
Wow, we got some Luis Suarez fans downvoting the heck out of these comments, lol...
No love for Suárez. But I love Cavani. I don’t know if there are many players that can equal his passion for playing the game.
Suarez definitely has his issues but I liked the way Uraguay played against Portugal. Edinson Cavani is a beast; look forward to him having a good game against France.
Agreed, Allez!!
Go Sweden. Go Colombia.
I'm rooting for Sweden because a lot of cool metal bands have come from there.
I'm rooting for crosses/logos over horizontal stripes in the lower half of the bracket, and logos over vertical stripes in the top half.
Symmetry is a tie-breaker.
You'd probably do pretty good in March Madness brackets, lol
As long as Naymar gets beat.. (I don’t mind Brazil) but he has acted like a child...
In Neymar's defense the dude gets more fouls against him then any other player. I'd get pretty tired of that...
Tre Kronor! Three Lions!
CR7 TO JUVENTUS
News is breaking this AM.
This breaks my heart. I’ve loved The Old Lady for 25 years now and I am not a fan of Ronaldo. Respect him as a singular talent but just think he is a dbag.
Let's go England!
Good for Zetterberg and the wings swedes.
I typically root against the South American teams. They seem to take diving and dirty play to the next level. Would be ecstatic to see Belgium take down Brazil and that clown baby Neymar. Too bad even though Belgium may have the most individual talent in the tournament they just play poor team ball.
Except for that last goal. Exquisite team ball.
France has most talent. If they are no one is beating them.
No Brazil. Sick of them.
I'd love to see England keep advancing, but I don't think they will go all the way. I like the way Belgium plays. If I had to choose I'd say France looks as strong as anyone, and Mbappe is electric.
This has been the best World Cup I can ever remember. There have been several great games and it seems like scoring is up.
Sweden are through. Thought the Swiss put up a good fight at the end...had some pretty good chances that they couldn't bury.
Anyway, hoping Colombia curb-stomps the Brits.
I will be watching in London...and hoping for an England loss.
English, not the Brits. I hope England eviscerates the Colombians.
In any case, eff the English!
All English people are British, though. And Scots/Welsh of a nationalist streak don't like being called British anyway.
England. God Save the Queen!
I'm primarily English and also a big time Spurs supporter... COME ON YOU 3 LIONS. 'ARRY 'ARRY!
I was born in Oxford, and currently want to hooliganize everyone talking trash about my 3 Lions on this page.
LET'S GO ENGLAND!!!
Was just in Oxford this morning. Never forget, 1776! Will be celebrating tomorrow :)
Here we Go!
Only yellow for a head butt?! WTF?!?!
Good, the englishman was faking it anyway, he barely got touched.
Lol "headbutt". English commentators we're having a field day too. Coming from a hockey perspective, I just don't see it.
Columbia are their own worst enemy. Childish.
Watching the World Cup has been very exciting, but I have to say that watching all the “tripping” and players trying to sell the refs on how hurt they are has gotten fairly annoying. I’m admittedly not at all in tune with the game and how it works on a global scale, but a lot of these guys seem to try and fake their injuries, and it just takes away from the overall enjoyment of the game.
Is this encouraged by coaching staffs, or is it just an accepted part of the game?
Both of these teams are irritating. Colombia is dirty and England is diving like crazy.
Extra time really suffers under what might be the single dumbest rule in all of sports: not allowing unlimited substitution when you've got a bevy of superb players from some of the best first-divisions all over the world sitting on the bench doing nothing but holding their wankers.
I thought that was actually a fairly interesting extra-time session, as these things go. A lot better than the last 30 minutes of regulation which was a foul-and-dive fest.
Who will blink first? All penalties been calm and collected so far
I want to see the goalies take PKs
Henderson telegraphed that shot
