OT - World Cup Final Day of Round of 16

Submitted by bacon1431 on

So today is the last day of the Round of 16. The quarterfinals matches that are already set are:

Uruguay-France

Brazil-Belgium

Russia-Croatia

The final quarterfinal matchup will be set once today's games are complete:

10 ET - FS1 - Sweden v Switzerland

2 ET - FOX - Colombia v England

Don't really care who wins the first matchup, but I'm pulling for Colombia. I would love a South American Final of Uruguay-Colombia. But really, I'm pulling for anybody that isn't France, Brazil or England at this point.

I would also add that both matches are on Telemundo, which might be the better viewing experience even if you can't understand Spanish.

I'm rooting for crosses/logos over horizontal stripes in the lower half of the bracket, and logos over vertical stripes in the top half.

Symmetry is a tie-breaker.

I typically root against the South American teams. They seem to take diving and dirty play to the next level. Would be ecstatic to see Belgium take down Brazil and that clown baby Neymar. Too bad even though Belgium may have the most individual talent in the tournament they just play poor team ball.

No Brazil. Sick of them.

I'd love to see England keep advancing, but I don't think they will go all the way. I like the way Belgium plays. If I had to choose I'd say France looks as strong as anyone, and Mbappe is electric.

This has been the best World Cup I can ever remember. There have been several great games and it seems like scoring is up.

Sweden are through. Thought the Swiss put up a good fight at the end...had some pretty good chances that they couldn't bury.

Anyway, hoping Colombia curb-stomps the Brits.

Watching the World Cup has been very exciting, but I have to say that watching all the “tripping” and players trying to sell the refs on how hurt they are has gotten fairly annoying. I’m admittedly not at all in tune with the game and how it works on a global scale, but a lot of these guys seem to try and fake their injuries, and it just takes away from the overall enjoyment of the game.

Is this encouraged by coaching staffs, or is it just an accepted part of the game?

Extra time really suffers under what might be the single dumbest rule in all of sports: not allowing unlimited substitution when you've got a bevy of superb players from some of the best first-divisions all over the world sitting on the bench doing nothing but holding their wankers.
