Hello: DJ Turner

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Per his twitter account.

3 star from Georgia but I doubt that lasts by the time he signs.

Offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma and Penn State.

The Opening invitee.

I'll take any guy from the South with those offers.

DJ's offers definitely do not much his stars (looking at you Bluey).

I'm no recruiting expert, but I suspect his ranking will go up after the summer.

Go Blue!

As much as I dislike Blowy/Msuizen/Shawna, I see no need to pollute a recruit's "Hello" thread by any mention of him as long as he refrains from posting his negativity on the thread.  Myself, I'd prefer not to be constantly reminded of his existence every time I read a thread, especially a "Hello".

DJ is going to get his 4th star once he attends The Opening.  Really like his film.  Projects like a natural FS - great angles, fast closer in space, covers like a CB and likes to hit.  He and Hinton are good friends.  More like-minded players are going to commit soon.  Last weekend must have been dynamite.  Go Blue !!!

Yup, understands angles, physical in closing, and closes fast on the ball. Plays a lot of safety in high school (not completely atypical at that level to get a guy toward the middle of the field to get him more involved). Has to work on his man coverage technique and gets a bit stronger in his upper half. His footwork and hands get him behind in some routes in man coverage, and he's a smaller CB, but he has good closing speed to help make up for it.

Seems like a player a lot of those other teams will push for if they miss on some of the more polished prospects with perhaps a little more natural size. Things to work on, but overall good clay to mold.

It's "smaller", especially if you presume that's more of a "high school roster" size.

Most programs are wanting 6'0"+ and around 180-195 lbs coming in (for true size). Turner is an 1"-2" short and probably 10-20 lbs short (and mass doesn't always come as easy for these guys as lineman, as they really have to focus on maintaining athleticism and flexibility on smaller frames).

So he isn't a mini-CB, but he's on the smaller end when it comes to the higher level prospects. There are a few higher level prospects around his size, but they typically have other elite traits in terms of athleticism or technique.

None of this is saying he doesn't have sufficient size to be a very good player, he just will need to be able to make up for it in other ways.

Interesting in that the staff seemed to love him but unlike most Don brown guys he has actually dropped in the rankings since the offer and not risen. Based off his numbers seems more suited to safety play than a straight corner back.

Also there are "offers" and offers and it doesn't seem like Clemson and Georgia were really pushing at the time. Anyways should be interesting to see the movement of some of these players over the summer. How big is this class supposed to be? Filling up pretty quickly at this point.

....and here some folks were, fretting over recruiting and why this but not that or what-have-you.

They are still here, of course, but hopefully they are at least absorbing some of this good news, which has been coming in generous amounts over the last several days.

Awesome. DJ has upside as a safety with good angles, ranges well, and high points the ball. Plays big time ball in GA so he’ll adapt quickly.  Just needs some weight/strength, which is a win-win as we don’t wamt a true frosh at safety.

Congrats to DJ.  Go Blue.
