46.11 would have me giddy.
I should have had this in the post: His previous best had been 50.65. The very high level of competition at the Arcadian Invitational brought a higher level out of him.
50.11 is fast - especially for 220lbs... but:
1) If 50.11 finishes #2 in a meet - it isn't a "very high level of competition"
2) It appears he really finished 13th, in one of 3 different 400m races. The winner of the fastest race ran 47.12
I am not getting why he got silver then. His school says he got silver.

Arcadian is a very high level of competition, regardless of his time.
If 50.11 finishes second - it isn't a "very high level of competition", especially in a state like California.
Over 1,500 high school runners ran faster in the 2018 outdoor season.
Michigan had over 30 HS runners go faster.
Which is why him finishing 13th, in the slowest of the 3 400m races, makes sense. He ran in the "open" race - which was all the people whose qualifying marks didn't get them invited to the "invitational" race.
The level of competition at the Arcadian is very high. Regardless of his time.
The mods should pull down this post then.
It was my bad for posting this. I put in a request in the Sticky to pull it down.
So sorry about this.
The number of runners faster than that who would not break when tackling a 270lb fb is probably 0.
50.11/400 is real fast for anything over 200lbs. We don't want him for the 4x400.
If it turns out he did place 13th, and did not get silver, then I want the moderators pull this post down, and I kinda want to know why they heck his school says he finished second and got silver. And what is the picture?
It appears to me that the race was the 2nd heat of 5. The list at the bottom shows him in 13th. What am I missing?
It seemed odd to me too. But he has the Silver. So I didn't know what to think too.
He took 2nd in the race for all that didn't qualify for the finals.
What? Only Silver? Quick, pull the offer.
And he's 6'2" 220... wow
That's why I posted this. He's quite an athlete. If he lost weight what would his have been.
That's Tyrone Wheatley (Sr) and Butch Woolfolk size and speed but bigger and faster.

Damn trophy generation...
If ya ain't first, yer last...
Yes, but does he have SEC speed?
/s
He's big and fast and I love it that he's coming to UM, but I don't think he got second overall. This results page shows him coming in 13th, just like the video: https://trackmeet.io/meets/964/events/23466
Is this wrong then?
Junior Zach Charbonnet runs a personal best of 50.11 in the 400 Meters to snag silver at the @ArcadiaInvite! Great Job Zach!

And there's the picture of him wearing the medal. So I don't know what's up.
That’s pretty good time for a high school runner, but not impressive at all for someone who’s a D1 running back recruit.
D1 running backs have better 400 times than that?
But I knew you were being sarcastic....... right?
"not impressive at all for someone who’s a D1 running back recruit."
Can you provide any specific 400m times for identified D1 running backs?
I'd say that in general the fact that he's running the 400m, and not the 100m - indicates he isn't all that "track fast".
You'll have a hard time finding 400m times for any running backs - because they are almost all 100m/200m guys.
He's an 11.3 100m guy - which is pretty fast for his size, but nothing insane. Ziggy Ansah ran 10.9 at 6'6", 260 lbs.
Great time ! I just started running the 400 for fun and so far I can;t break 1:00. Best time so far is 1:01. But my goal is 55 seconds by end of summer !
....any eligibility left???
If you take off some of that Bling you might lose about 3/10ths of a second. I have my timer hold my neckwear.
HAHA!!! I'm now picturing Gucci sprinting down the track with his bling bouncing off his face while he bangs out a text to some recruit.
No doubt he's telling said recruit to ignore Bluey...
Not bad. Additional qualifying standard in Michigan (Div 1) is 50.50 s. If I recall correctly, this is determined using the average 8th place finish at the state meet over the past 5 years.
The state champ will probably break 48.
When I was in HS, we had a guy run a similar 400 time. He went to Ferris State to return kickoffs (and kick them too). Not that straight line speed is how we measure how good a football player is.
The 400 is not a good measure of football speed for a running back but it is a gawdawful distance to race and is a great measure of heart. Bottom line is that this kid is a helluva running back with all the attributes for potential greatness. His classmate (Thibodeaux) tweeted "Heisman???" at him following his commitment...and I agree with his potential in this regard. This kid is really good.
"The 400 is not a good measure of football speed for a running back."
I ran the half-mile and mile relay in HS a billion years ago and based on that experience I think you're on solid ground in saying that using the 400 as any kind of benchmark for a football player is nuts, especially when you consider that the vast majority of carries any RB makes at the collegiate level are for less than 10 yds. For a pure football guy as big as Charbonnet is, 50.11 is pretty damn good.
