Mazi Smith Has Committed To Michigan Comment Count

Michigan football is getting reinforcements. MGoBlog may need them.

Top150 East Kentwood (MI) defensive tackle Mazi Smith announced his commitment on Twitter, becoming the third prospect of the day to join the 2019 class, following tight end Erick All and running back Zach Charbonnet. Smith is ranked as high as 29th overall (ESPN) and no lower than 225th (247). His Hudl page features a short, violent junior highlight reel:

Smith was the subject of last year's final Future Blue Originals. Adam's takeaway:

Smith has the current skillset and upside to play 3-technique, and though I won’t go so far as to Dwumfour him up and call him the next Hurst, there’s certainly some resemblance there. On the most basic level, Smith checks all the boxes you want in an underclassman HS lineman: size, speed, and strength. His hand usage is advanced and he diagnoses the run well for a player his age. His biggest strength at this point is his speed off the ball at 6’3” and 290 pounds. Smith doesn’t look like he weighs 290—there’s no evidence of bad weight here—and he certainly doesn’t move like he weighs that much, but he blows through blocks and tackles backs like it.

He also holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, Louisville, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon, and Wisconsin, among others. He's the 14th commit in the 2019 class, which now ranks tenth nationally and second in the conference. A full Hello post on Smith will be posted, uh, as soon as we're ready.

The fallout from this big recruiting weekend may not be over, either.

Can we please stop name-dropping that piece of shit? This place has really gone to hell lately.

I feel like the old MGoBlog would have roasted the jackass and then forgot he existed, not mention the troll in every recruiting thread multiple times.

Are you kidding? The old Mgoblog had people taking digs at Maizen/Bluey all the time. This is exactly the same.

BTW, I really hate to say this, but Bluey's response just below is completely correct. It is pretty sad that this is the first comment in a commit post. The comments that go out of their way to namedrop him in threads in which he has not appeared are as dumb as his junk stuff.

I agree with bluey!

This is a Hello post, welcome the kid to the team and move on.

Bluey and his minions were asked to leave the crap out of hello posts and they respected that all afternoon, THANK YOU.

Board posts are buried in a couple of days, Hello posts are linked to for years. Let's keep them respectful.

I've been checking out YouTube videos of Dan White, the magician. The dude is awesome, just as good as David Blaine. Anyways, every other video we get another commit! It's like...more magic...

I could definitely see the resemblance to Hurst from his Hudl before even seeing that scouting report. He's a space eater who's gonna collapse the pocket and allow the DEs to feast on the QB

Rooting for great D-line play is my favorite thing about football.  I get more of this?  Locking it fucking down this class yes.  Love it.  Welcome Mazi!!!

What a haul today. All three of these guys are stallions man. This is shaping up to be a pretty salty class. Fricking scary. Whoever says the coaches and staff are under performing in recruiting is damn fool. The last 5 or 6 commits here are pretty much all men playing against boys this fall as seniors.

Awesome ! Very exciting to get 2 highly rated kids in a row. This class needs to finish top 10 and that can;t happen without mostly 4 stars.

I'm not so sure about the All kid but Velasquez, Charbonnet and Smith...OH MY!!! Great recruiting weekend for the Wolverines. These guys form a very good baseline from which to complete this class. Michigan will be very picky from here on out...with all those top tier prospects hanging in the balance.

Earlier this year the subject of Smith came up, and some poster (don't remember who it was) asserted that Smith not only wasn't going to commit to Michigan, but didn't even have Michigan in his top 3 and was headed to PSU or OSU. When questioned on this assertion, he claimed that the source for this unassailable info was the East Kentwood wrestling coach who he implied he personally knew.

It's almost like anonymous people on the internet sometimes talk out of their ass and make shit up.

How do you pronounce "Mazi?"   I really want it to be pronounced "Maize-y" because that would be all sorts of awesome.   The 19 D-line is looking like a re-load.   Go Blue and welcome Mazi!
