WR Quintel Kent from Lakewood, OH. He is a zero star recruit with offers from Kent State, Bowling Green, EKU, and Ball State.

Remains to be seen if his UM offer is committable, but uh, yeah.

Pretty clear why Brian hated the McElwain hire at this point.

Was this a camp offer?

Sam just put out an article on 247 discussing how U-M is stepping up recruiting efforts in Ohio. He interviewed Greene as part of this story and Greene made it a point that camp offers are very significant in his mind because a) it is the most recent data available on a kid as opposed to tape from a game 8-9 months ago and b) the staff can run him through any drill they want and talk to him as long as they want to get a real assessment of his ability. 

No idea if this kid is any good but he must have showed something at camp that the staff liked.

I'm all concerned now.  Some guy on a board named Bluey is worried about the numbers of stars being recruited by an NFL coach.  SMH

 

Like Harbaugh needs to wait for someone to tell him a guy is worth recruiting.

You use stats and messaging like a perverse politician.  

Of course stars matter although there is serious evidence that the data set has been devalued by sloppy or lazy effort.  

You should not discount this staffs ability and the importance of player evaluation.  Harbaugh has shown a very good ability to find talent and coach guys to the NFL.

The talent and talent rankings on the roster recruited by Harbaugh is among the top teams in the country.    

 But this was a waste of time because you don’t reason.   You are just a troll

Actually, no it isn't. I wonder, do you have a degree in mathematics or statistics? I do, so let me explain the value of starzzz to you:

Starzzzz are not the most accurate tool available for evaluating an individual recruit; not even close. Talent evaluation by people who know what they are looking at (division I coaches, for example) is the most accurate tool. It's not a perfect tool -- no tool is perfect, but it is far and away more detailed and deep than some recruiting industry once-highschool-assistant-coach-or-something analyst who fires off quick and lazy evaluations of as many kids as he possibly can.

Star rankings are simply the best tool that is available to general audiences (i.e. morons on blogs like you), but that doesn't mean they are a good predictor. If you had any degree of statistical literacy, you would understand that a star ranking has no predictive value for any individual kid. It does have predictive value when taking a sufficiently sized random sample of division I recruits at a certain star ranking, then you can expect a certain range to be NFL draft picks.

Even looking at the class in the aggregate is /not a sufficiently random sample to apply star rankings and gain accurate predictions/. The University of Michigan class contains only recruits who were offered by the University of Michigan coaching staff. It contains only recruits that were heavily interviewed and scouted by the University of Michigan coaching staff, and then offered. These kids won't be coached by random division I coaches, they won't be in random division I nutrition and S&C programs. These are confounding variables that make the sample completely non-random.

You can't use starzzz to predict the success of a kid, because statistics doesn't work that way. A single kid isn't a meaningful sample. You can try to use them to predict the success of a class, but a class isn't a random sample.

In all likelihood Michigan's entire skill position class is going to consist of fliers, late bloomers, sleepers, guys who recently emerged from a coma, and the like. These are the wages of having the worst passing offense imaginable and not having a WR coach who can go on the road to recruit until you hire… uh… Jim McElwain.

To Bleuy I want to talk about this article right here. If anybody hasn't read this article-- I don't read it-- this was brought to me by a mother, of children. I think it's worth reading. Let me tell you why I want to talk about this article. Three-fourths of this is inaccurate. It's fiction. And, this article embarrasses me to be involved with athletics, tremendously. And that article, had to have been written by a person that doesn't have a child. And has never had a child that's had their heart broken and come home... upset. And had to deal with the child when he is upset. And kick a person when he's down. Here's all that kid did: he goes to class, he's respectful to the media, he's respectful to the public, and he's a good kid. And he's not a professional athlete, and he doesn't deserve to be kicked when he's down. If you have a child someday, you'll understand how it feels. But you obviously don't have a child. I do. Your child goes down the street, and somebody makes fun of him, because he dropped a pass in a pick-up game, or says he's fat, and he comes home crying to his mom, you'd understand. But you don't have that. But someday, you will. And when your child comes home, you'll understand. If you want to go after an athlete-- one of my athletes-- you go after one that doesn't do the right things. You don't downgrade him because he does everything right and may not play as well on Saturday. And you let us make that decision. That's why I don't read the newspaper: because it's garbage. And the editor that let it come out is garbage. Attacking an amateur athlete for doing everything right. And then you want to write articles about guys that don't do things right and downgrade them-- the ones who do make plays. Are you kidding me? Where are we at in society today? Come after me! I'm a man! I'm 40! I'm not-- I'm not a kid. Write something about me, or our coaches. Don't write about a kid that does everything right that's heart's broken, and then said that the coaches said he was scared. That ain't true! So get your facts straight. And I hope someday you have a child and somebody be-- downgrades him, and belittles him and you have to look him in the eye and say, "You know what? It's okay. They're supposed to be mature adults, but they're really not." Who's the kid here? Who's the kid here? Are you kidding me? That's all I've got to say. Makes me want to puke
