No no no. Give me two early second round picks and a late first over moving up a few spots. The wings need to get younger fast to get this rebuild going. Giving up picks to move up a few spots is a move reserved for teams who are just a few pieces away. The Wings don’t have that luxury right now.

Too many needs to be moving away assets like that.

Zadina will be a superstar. I was really hoping for Hughes but when a gift of this magnitude drops in your lap you better not screw it up. The Wings have a super promising young core upfront.

More work to do.

I gotta say, out of all the league's drafts, the NHL's is my favorite.

I love the set up that all the teams brass, scouts, etc are on the floor together and not back in their respective facilities with only one or two representatives at the actual draft. The teams themselves announce their selections for all rounds, instead of a commissioner. A bunch of 17 and 18 year olds from around the world and their family and friends are in the stands, sometimes mixed in with fans, just waiting for their names to be called.

Yes, Bettman is the worst commissioner in sports.  The fans have been booing him since he was hired out of the NBA's salary cap office.  He's the guy that brought in the salary cap, expanded the league too far too fast, legislated a lot of the physicality out of the game, and put spotlights on certain teams and players over everyone else.  He not only led the owner lockouts, he talked them into them.  He doesn't understand the game (how its played - still), nor does he really care about its traditions.  He's a salary cap lawyer.  He is not popular with fans, and has never been.

Fuck Bettman.

(In other news - good morning!! LOL, end of rant!!)

Of the first 20 picks, 5 are American, 6 are Canadian, 3 are Russian, 4 are Scandanavian, and 2 are non-Russian Eastern European.

Clearly hockey has evolved from being a primarily Canadian sport into being a northern hemisphere international sport.

I can't believe Arizona's pick. Sounds like they could have traded down and still got him. Hopefully Detroit gets a defensemen at 30. Could end up taking Wilde or Samuelsson.

Kenny just tea bagged some moneypuckers.

If they can grab Wilde after his longest night ever....

....that's three highly motivated picks in the first 33.

And a handful more in the pipeline.

there are 6 guys that had 1st round projections, still available. Its entirely possible the Red Wings come away with 2 of them. I suppose hoping for Wilde and Samuellson is a bit much, but damn that would look good on paper. Holland might make an ass out of me yet, god knows I have been beating the "fire Ken Holland" drum quite a bit. Be more than happy to eat my words.

14 defensemen taken in the 1st round! Wow!

Veleno falling was pretty awesome too. We're in desperate need of C as well.

I'm in the Bode Wilde bandwagon for the next pick. I hope Buffalo doesn't trade out of that pick or pick him. That's amazing value there.

The Wings lucked into insane value in this first round and now have a shot at a few pretty good defensemen in the next 5 picks. If everything turns out well, this could be a major turning point for the direction of the franchise.

Im a little disappointed in the Berggran pick. He had a first round grade and is solid at both ends with good hockey sense and high character but I wanted two D at 33 and 36 and there were some good ones available. McIssac at 36 is a good pick but hes also small and left handed. I had hoped theyd take Wilde at 33.

Now Kenny please please please dont do your usual thing of taking some end of career vet  blocking these young guys from climbing the ladder. With Nilsson, Zetterberg, Kronwall and Green we have enough vets to teach the youngsters.

The future is bright if Holland doesnt fuck it up.
