OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 6/19: Look At This Beautiful Map!

Submitted by AmaizeingBlue on

Yesterday was an absolutely fabulous day for us. We jumped all the way up to 27 territories and have a gigantic stranglehold on the midwest. Florida is in first place with 32 territories and Nebraska is in third place and dropped all the way down to 16 territories. Overall, things are looking incredibly positive for our alliance.  The full leaderboard can be seen below.

Announcement: Congratulations to wilee8 who was yesterday's daily mgocontest winner for being the MVP of Indiana. You will be awarded 200 mgopoints for your hard work!

Steps To Play Every Day:

  1. Sign up for a reddit.com account if you don’t have one already
  2. Visit https://flair.redditcfb.com/ " go to “find by conference," click “FBS” then “Big 10” and finally “Michigan” to set yourself as a member of our team. Click “Update Flair” to set it.
  3. Visit https://michigancfbrisk.com/ and click “Get Order!”
  4. Click the blue chessboard beneath the logo that you’re meant to attack/defend to take you to the game.
  5. Scroll down, now, and on the right hand side of the screen, you will see the options that you can attack or defend. Click the school logo that you were assigned to

Do not ever attack any territory that is owned by one of our allies unless specifically told to do so in your orders. Our allies are Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech, and Texas. If you get an order to attack an ally owned territory then it means we are coordinating with them, so it is acceptable. Otherwise, do not attack allied territories or defend territories that allies border please!

Make sure you aren't flagged as a bot

One potential issue with the influx of new users we had is that some players may have been flagged as a bot and therefore their actions may not be counting. If you are flagged as a bot you will see the image below on vote.redditcfb.com

If you are seeing that message follow the steps below, otherwise you can ignore this.

  1. Follow the link shown in the screenshot above and fill out the google form
  2. Wait at least one day for the text box to disappear. If it does disappear, you are all set.
  3. If the bot disclaimer message persists after one day, then message the mods of /r/cfbrisk directly. You can follow the link in step 4 below to do this in one easy click.
  4. https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FCFBRisk&subject=&message=
  5. Be patient as the mods of the game are busy and they are putting a lot of effort into running this thing.

Been playing the past month almost daily and still don't understand how the bad RNG results happen as often as they do. Good night overall, but OSU picking up UMass after looking at the amount of UM rolls is mindboggling

There are 41 territories we can either attack or defend today. As such, the expected value of territories with a very unusual result (e.g. RNG >.9) would be a little over 4.

We got RNG fucked in UMass, but made up for it by winning almost every territory that we were even slightly favored in.

Are we attempting to win this game as an alliance (Based on the limited amount of turns left)? Or is there a set date where it is every man for themselves?

Better to approach it as an alliance win.  There are only three teams that have a realistic shot at finishing 1st (us, UF, and Neb) and it won't matter until the last turn anyway.  Considering that the red alliance has been so dominant for the first 2/3 of the game, this is a very sweet position to have just now.

I don’t know how this works and didn’t bother to follow the explanation posted,  but I obsessively check this daily and fervently hope we can eradicate all remaining Ohio State territory and win whatever it is we hope to win here.

I see two strategic issues:

1). The “infection” in the NE looks dangerous.  Is that happening because we keep leaving open places for Clemson and then O and W pounce?  That’s seems dangerous if they take the corner and foolish because of the losses at this stage.

2). Florida looks to be on a wild expansion strategy that is blocking and will block us from accessing new territories unless we attack our alliance.  I say thats tactical on their part without having to attack is.  We will be cornered.

My comments are all speculation since I have no insight into the alliance strategy or ours.

Just started this week after the main board post, and I still don't understand exactly how it works, but it's always good to see the Block M winning.  I'm hoping joining in on discord I can finally understand what the hell is going on

Key stat for setting up to win:

Number of non alliance member territories available (adjacent) to attack in next round:

Florida ~ 31

Michigan ~ 11

Damn, I got orders to attack Tennessee, which is held by GT, our ally, and the Institute from which I hold a degree. Ah well. Go Blue.
