OT: U.S Open Final Round Thread

Submitted by MichiganFan1984 on

Final Round of U.S Open is on FOX from now until the finish. The guys within 4 shots of lead tee off at 1:07. The final pairing goes off at 2:24. I’m rooting for Patrick Reed. I have no idea who actually pulls this off. The weather is supposed to be similar to yesterday, so it should be fun. Enjoy the day!

It's too bad the USGA ruined the course yesterday.  I really only have an issue with the greens.  Several of them have the shape of a mushroom cap and they do not reward a really good shot.  I think Phil wanted to rip into them yesterday and hence the penalty for hitting a moving ball, but he caught himself and realized that nothing good could come from him doing so.  If you are a golfer, links-style courses are fun to play every now and then, but I can't imagine being a member at the current venue...what a waste of money and time.

The thing is, they've had that exact problem with Shinnecock in prior Opens. The USGA should have known better. Either don't award the Open to Shinnecock or re-design at least two of the greens.

If you want the winning score to be E, that's fine. But don't turn the course into a funhouse in the process.

How would you feel if we go to Notre Dame on 9/1 and the grass is knee level?  Is that ok as both teams are playing on the same surface?  Or is it a shit show equivalent to having a windmill out on the putting green, if you know what I mean.

They fucked up the course yesterday and everyone knows it.  It's a great course but they need to stop being "too cute" with the lack of watering and pin placements.  As it was mentioned above, great shots are not being rewarded.  When great shots yield the same result as poor shots, something is wrong.

"Quit Whining"?  You rockin' your internet muscles today?  It's ok to disagree on a message board without calling other posters out that have opinions that differ from yours.  Both players and USGA were in agreement that the course wasn't fair yesterday and I tend to agree with that.  I get where you're coming from and I take great enjoyment in watching the leaders shoot even to over par.  But no need to be a tool about it.

That's true of all golf courses.  Is it fair when groups go out in the morning with the sun shining, fair temperatures, and no wind but just as they finish their round the leaders go out into a cold driving rain?  Welcome to championship golf whether it be at St. Andrews, Augusta, Pebble Beach, or Shinnecock Hills, the weather is always a changing element that everyone knows will change.

Lol, i'd take a membership at Shinnecock. The course is amazing.  One has to use the course topography rather than just hit from lily pad to lily pad like every other boring course.  The only problem is the setup for the tournament doesnt let you run up shots to every green like it should.

Everyone plays the same course?

Yesterdays morning course played completely different than afternoon.

Too many players make the cut?

"The course in the morning was different than the course in the afternoon"... LOL stop with that.

Moving forward, the USGA/PGA might as well start designing indoor courses, because we have NEVER seen weather play a factor from morning to afternoon, vice versa.....

Play the cards your dealt.

Or just reduce the amount of players that make the cut that go to the weekend. The weekend golfers all tee of within a couple of hours.  You know so they all play basically the same conditions.

I think Koepka would make a great Viper for us.

Props to him.  Back to back.  Very difficult.
