MGOBLOG 3.0 Voting Question/Issue ?

Submitted by Chipper1221 on

So every now and again when I go into a thread it appears that some post have already been down-voted or up-voted by me - the way i can tell is the thumbs up or thumbs down is blue instead of white, indicating that I have "voted". Unless I've been sleepwalking and creeping on Mgoblog these votes are not coming from me. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?

What have you got against AI?  Version 3.0 uses data gathered by Google and predictively determines what you will up/down vote, so you no longer have to do it yourself.

Here, by the way, is what I see on the main page using 3/4 of a 24" monitor. No diaries, no board entries, not even any text from the first article. Aside from some obnoxious animated GIFs, it's not actually that far off from the "April Fools in June" interim site we had during the conversion. Blech.mgoblogmain.JPG

I can't believe they paid someone to come up with the design that leads to that abomination.

The second row doesn't really seem necessary on a site that isn't throwing up half a dozen posts a day where you might miss one.  It just looks like a bad copy of any of a dozen other sites done for no other reason that it's different than what came before.  And seriously, why would a design gets used that doesn't even bother to line up all of the disparate pieces?  It just looks sloppy and lazy.

I’ve been trying to be patient, giving this ‘new thing’ a chance, but I’m now ready to come out and say it’s a fail. Just bring back 2.0 that doesn’t crash. Don’t fix something that’s not broken.

i ride on trains a lot and often have people beside me look over and comment about how cool the website looked.

I guess this is a good thread to finally ask: how do you even upvote or downvote with the new site? I still can't find it. I'm probably just looking right over it but I would love to know anyways. Thanks!

So far everyone who can't see them has less than 500 points. Maybe the voting threshold has gone up without any notification, but if it's 500, that's a lot of posts before you can vote (which is the other mainstream way to get points).

It seems pretty uh, weird, that we're having to reverse-engineer what's happening due to a communication vacuum.

Agreed. Probably my biggest gripe (other than general look/layout). That's exactly how I used to follow threads.

Another super annoying thing; I started to reply to your comment, then decided not to. Click back, and it goes to the middle of page one of this thread. WTF? It does this if you're on say, page four of a thread and click back also.

There are so many damn things that don't work, I'm pretty stunned it was decided to go ahead with the roll out. I guess the beta testing wasn't very rigorous.

Oh, and after you comment, it's cool how it just takes you to the very end of the whole thread. Then you get to go back to edit, but nope, can't edit. So you have to comment to your comment, even if it's just to vent about having to do exactly that.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

I have seen that a couple of times too.

I blame most such strange events on the Lurking Spartan.  His spelling and grammar are too precise to be a Spartan - I think he is lurking and causing havoc for nefarious reasons not yet known.

My other conspiracy theory is that a couple of those Reddit CFB Risk extremists are getting bored with showing the same useless map over and over, and are starting to cause chaos.  They have that nerd/loner hacker thing going -watch out for those guys.

Has anyone else had a problem logging in/staying logged in? I had this problem a few days ago and now it's not letting me login without using an incognito window on chrome. In a normal chrome window, it's telling me there's too many failed logins from my ip address. I guess I'll have to make due for now.

I am unable to log in on my desktop, also Chrome. I'm getting the "failed login attempts" message as well. The same message popped up when attempting to log in on my tablet. I cleared the history, cache, etc. and all was well. The same method did not work with the desktop.

Mobile (phone) works fine.

These changes have inspired me to take a MGobreak until the week before Notre Dame. Who knows? I may even get off my cell phone and speak to others?

More:

If I upvote a post the thumb turns blue. If I refresh the page, the are all white with a blue outline, even those I upvoted. If I then upvote a post I've already upvoted it removes my upvote.

Not arcane stuff here. Should have easily been caught and corrected in (months of) testing, I think.

How has there been no answer from the Blog with regards to the voting issue?  Please -- just give us the new voting requirements for who can upvote and downvote so we can stop worrying about it.

I'm going to say it, with all respect to HUEL and such: I'm having a heck of a time getting comfortable with the 3.0 (or 3.1 post Geocities interlude?). I know, I know, "resistant to change" or whatever, but it's not intuitive to me at all.
