MGOBLOG 3.0 Voting Question/Issue ?
So every now and again when I go into a thread it appears that some post have already been down-voted or up-voted by me - the way i can tell is the thumbs up or thumbs down is blue instead of white, indicating that I have "voted". Unless I've been sleepwalking and creeping on Mgoblog these votes are not coming from me. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?
I've seen this comment a lot - and I've also seen some speculation that the minimum point total for voting and posting OP's has increased. But we can only speculate since there has been no communication at all by the powers that be.
I guess Ill get used to it but I find the layout annoying
What have you got against AI? Version 3.0 uses data gathered by Google and predictively determines what you will up/down vote, so you no longer have to do it yourself.
You've been watching too many episodes of Black Mirrors, my friend.
Here, by the way, is what I see on the main page using 3/4 of a 24" monitor. No diaries, no board entries, not even any text from the first article. Aside from some obnoxious animated GIFs, it's not actually that far off from the "April Fools in June" interim site we had during the conversion. Blech.
I can't believe they paid someone to come up with the design that leads to that abomination.
The second row doesn't really seem necessary on a site that isn't throwing up half a dozen posts a day where you might miss one. It just looks like a bad copy of any of a dozen other sites done for no other reason that it's different than what came before. And seriously, why would a design gets used that doesn't even bother to line up all of the disparate pieces? It just looks sloppy and lazy.
I’ve been trying to be patient, giving this ‘new thing’ a chance, but I’m now ready to come out and say it’s a fail. Just bring back 2.0 that doesn’t crash. Don’t fix something that’s not broken.
i ride on trains a lot and often have people beside me look over and comment about how cool the website looked.
Think of the folks at HUEL who probably gave Brian a big discount, thinking, "this will really get out the word about the work we do here at Human Element!
Same here. I figured it was just me they hated hence the insanely bad and disfunctional layout.. Now I know i'm not alone........
Yeah this is definitely a pretty awful design all around. Yes people will hate change, but this change is so poor from a UX perspective.
I guess this is a good thread to finally ask: how do you even upvote or downvote with the new site? I still can't find it. I'm probably just looking right over it but I would love to know anyways. Thanks!
Are the mgothumbs not showing up for you?
I do not see these icons in Firefox (60.0.2)
I also do not see the thumbs up/down icons for voting on Chrome using a Mac
Really? Im using Chrome on a Mac and I can see everything - might be my voting issue. Have you updated your chrome recently?
I do not see it either. I am using latest Chrome version (67.0.3396.79). May be one needs 500 points to vote?
So far everyone who can't see them has less than 500 points. Maybe the voting threshold has gone up without any notification, but if it's 500, that's a lot of posts before you can vote (which is the other mainstream way to get points).
It seems pretty uh, weird, that we're having to reverse-engineer what's happening due to a communication vacuum.
Seth's recent front-page post refers to "trusted users" as 500+ points, so I think you're right about that being the new standard.
With the voting button issues, it seems like the number 100, needed to vote, was typo'd to 1000. I'd be interested if someone close to that line could report on the buttons...
I can see the vote buttons and gave you an up.
But in a wierd development, when I commented on your post and on one further up the page, it took me to page 2 even though I hadn't finished reading page 1. I don't pretend to understand web development but that ain't right.
I can still create a post/diary, I just can't vote on it. Seems weird to change the totals for voting, but not on content creation.
It must be as I don't see the option to upvote/downvote
Here is an example of what I see. Even the user's logo goes over the text sometimes.
Your post looks like this (along with the ridiculous uber-indenting and misrendered post above (a full 1200 pixels and the page shows less than two posts)...
Hate the indenting too, and have no clue what distinction the black vs maize lines are trying to make.
I don't see the thumbs in Chrome - with or without ad blockers/script blockers turned on. I was starting to think people were joking about there being thumbs.
Weird, I see the thumbs no problem, (yes sometimes they’re blue for me before voting too) but I don’t see anybody’s point totals.....
I'd like to be able to see which comments are new.
That was always one of my first clicks on v2.0. The "new" comment link. You could actually follow a conversation in several different threads.
Agreed. Probably my biggest gripe (other than general look/layout). That's exactly how I used to follow threads.
Another super annoying thing; I started to reply to your comment, then decided not to. Click back, and it goes to the middle of page one of this thread. WTF? It does this if you're on say, page four of a thread and click back also.
There are so many damn things that don't work, I'm pretty stunned it was decided to go ahead with the roll out. I guess the beta testing wasn't very rigorous.
Oh, and after you comment, it's cool how it just takes you to the very end of the whole thread. Then you get to go back to edit, but nope, can't edit. So you have to comment to your comment, even if it's just to vent about having to do exactly that.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
I have seen that a couple of times too.
I blame most such strange events on the Lurking Spartan. His spelling and grammar are too precise to be a Spartan - I think he is lurking and causing havoc for nefarious reasons not yet known.
My other conspiracy theory is that a couple of those Reddit CFB Risk extremists are getting bored with showing the same useless map over and over, and are starting to cause chaos. They have that nerd/loner hacker thing going -watch out for those guys.
Has anyone else had a problem logging in/staying logged in? I had this problem a few days ago and now it's not letting me login without using an incognito window on chrome. In a normal chrome window, it's telling me there's too many failed logins from my ip address. I guess I'll have to make due for now.
I am unable to log in on my desktop, also Chrome. I'm getting the "failed login attempts" message as well. The same message popped up when attempting to log in on my tablet. I cleared the history, cache, etc. and all was well. The same method did not work with the desktop.
Mobile (phone) works fine.
Same here. Happened 3 times this weekend. Had to keep changing my password.
Same here as well. Using Chrome from my Galaxy 8 and desktop here at work. For reasons unknown after waiting an hour or so it did accept my original password - the one it rejected initially and asked me to change.
Same. Will try the clear cache and history approach next time... Is it wrong that I'm assuming the problem will recur?
I had this for the first couple days but now it seem to work.
These changes have inspired me to take a MGobreak until the week before Notre Dame. Who knows? I may even get off my cell phone and speak to others?
But you’re still here so..... lol.
More:
If I upvote a post the thumb turns blue. If I refresh the page, the are all white with a blue outline, even those I upvoted. If I then upvote a post I've already upvoted it removes my upvote.
Not arcane stuff here. Should have easily been caught and corrected in (months of) testing, I think.
How has there been no answer from the Blog with regards to the voting issue? Please -- just give us the new voting requirements for who can upvote and downvote so we can stop worrying about it.
I'm going to say it, with all respect to HUEL and such: I'm having a heck of a time getting comfortable with the 3.0 (or 3.1 post Geocities interlude?). I know, I know, "resistant to change" or whatever, but it's not intuitive to me at all.
And I agree with you 100% Bando on all counts.
Jesus there's a sentence you dont see me write everyday. This thing really is a monster.
Is it a monster? Is it? Or has it brought us together?
Think about that...
Ur right Mr. Glass Half-Full. The lion lays down with the lamb, strange bedfellows and all that.
We are united indeed against a common foe.
I went to go post a picture, and apparently I don't know how to do that anymore.

I give up. Give me back 2.0 until we can get a functional, intuitive site.
Also, it would be nice to know who the OP is before clicking on the link.
