Magnuson Out Through Spring
Per mlive tweet, Magnuson is gone due to shoulder injury through spring practice. Not cool - a very thin position and this is our projected starting LT. Sigh.
Nick Baumgardner @nickbaumgardner 5m
Hoke said Erik Magnuson won't be available for spring practice with a shoulder injury. Look for David Dawson to rep at tackle.

Buh but, this is 2014..
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:00 PM ^
Must have just been a January thing.

Really?

Hockey won sat night. I refuse to give up alreadt
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:31 PM ^
Also Bryant and Burzynksi.
Ill tidings for the 2014 OL.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:40 PM ^
I missed the current Bryant injury, when did it occur?
I don't think anybody thought Burzynski would be available for spring practice, but surely by August he should be recovered enough to practice.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:44 PM ^
Would it be an offseason without a Bryant injury? Just assume there is one each year. We are at the point with this poor guy the specifics don't really even matter.
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:16 PM ^
Bryant and Magnuson both have "Shoulder Injuries" according to the twitters
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:27 PM ^
they were both injured as Magnuson was trying to put Bryant in bubble wrap...
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:48 PM ^
But I'm afraid he's not likely to ever see significant playing time given his ongoing injury problems. I hope he proves me wrong though.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:31 PM ^
So what will we say when we find out he was actually expelled a week ago?
/s too soon?
Wishing him a fast recovery.

Cranium
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:37 PM ^
least 1 and likely 2 kids have been badly damaged, we should probably avoid joking about it...... (along with AIDS, learning disabilities, slavery, and starving children).
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:28 PM ^
I have this great joke about a starving child with a learning disability who lives in slavery and contracts AIDS...
The joke kills at parties!
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:46 PM ^
I'm sure you do.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:37 PM ^
probably too soon.
February 3rd, 2014 at 5:01 PM ^
never too soon.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:34 PM ^
More spring reps for younger guys, silver lining.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:39 PM ^
these reps for younger players, or just YOUNG-LOOKING players?
I keed I keed.

BANNED RAGE
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:42 PM ^
Yes, but Magnuson is not exactly a grizzled veteran. He could use all the practice he could get, as could just about every member of that OL at this point.
February 3rd, 2014 at 5:40 PM ^
and as others have pointed out, when Magnuson did play last year it was at guard, not tackle.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:44 PM ^
Good for LTT.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:56 PM ^
Per MLive Tweets. Does that mean that Braden will be practicing at LT?
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:01 PM ^
Are there many 6'4 tackles out there?
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:12 PM ^
I think Dawson was always one of those "6'4"-6'5" Guard-or-RT guys, we recruited a lot of them. Quick googling says Michael Oher is 6'4", he's now the Raven's RT. and the first 5 guys I clicked on here: http://espn.go.com/nfl/players/_/position/othttp://espn.go.com/nfl/players/_/position/ot (NFL, all tackles R and L) are 6'7", 3 at 6'5" and one at 6'3".
February 3rd, 2014 at 7:06 PM ^
important measure for a tackle in addition to height. IIRC, Dawson has a pretty big wingspan.
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:12 PM ^
But all together not completely uncommon. It's not optimal, but that alone isn't a reason to freak out. How your perceive the rest of the OL depth chart may be though.
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:16 PM ^
I disagree with your use of "May". Our OL depth chart is still scary as all hell, even with everyone healthy.
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:22 PM ^
IIRC, Michigan has not had a starting tackle shorter than 6'6" since Steve Schilling bumped inside to guard for Rich Rodriguez (Lewan, Schofield, Huyge, Ortmann, Dorrestein, etc.).
February 3rd, 2014 at 3:10 PM ^
Bring back Martavious Odoms for Left Tackle. That dude could block!
February 3rd, 2014 at 4:20 PM ^
FWIW, Michael Oher is 6'4" and made a decent name for himself at OT.
February 3rd, 2014 at 4:29 PM ^
he looked so much bigger standing next to Sandra Bullock.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:52 PM ^
Except I didn't say fudge.
February 3rd, 2014 at 5:16 PM ^
Thanks for the Christmas Story reference. Made me smile.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:52 PM ^
that S&C may stand for more than Strength and Conditioning. Maybe Strains and Contusions?
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:52 PM ^
Just for the board's information, there were other tweets which mentioned that Devin Gardner, Amara Darboh and Drake Johnson would all be limited in spring practice, but how limited was not mentioned. I am sure the full summary is mere moments away, so hopefully we will know more about these players as well later today.
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:04 PM ^
Also saw somewhere that Ross Douglass was moving to RB. Supposedly played a lot of scout team RB in practice and impressed the coaches.
February 3rd, 2014 at 2:46 PM ^
He was getting some positive reviews from practices, but we do seem to have good depth at DB and IIRC he was on the smaller side of DB's they've recently recruited. And clearly we lack RB depth at the moment.
Position changers rarely amount to much, but lets hope Ross bucks the trend.
February 3rd, 2014 at 3:02 PM ^
that could be one of the reasons we stopped recruiting at RB.
February 3rd, 2014 at 4:26 PM ^
Ross did as an RB in high school (assuming he played both ways)?
February 3rd, 2014 at 4:50 PM ^
If I recall he put up pretty decent numbers his senior year, bit when I saw him against my nephew's high school in the playoffs (Tiffin Columbian), I wasn't all that impressed.
February 3rd, 2014 at 5:25 PM ^
He's a good RB. Check out his film on the tube. Reminds me of Jeff Jones.
February 3rd, 2014 at 5:55 PM ^
Good lord, what did Amara Darboh DO to that foot?
February 3rd, 2014 at 10:15 PM ^
Probably stepped on a LEGO.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:54 PM ^
Well, hopefully LTT is ready to step up.........
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:56 PM ^
Is this an injury lingering from the season? If so, why'd they wait so long?
