Hey guys, great game last night!

Submitted by BrewHawk on

Just got home from Iowa City and wanted to check in quick and give the Wolverine team a ton of credit for the effort I saw last night.

Obviously, the Hawks didn't play nearly as well as I would have liked, some of that was definitely due to what your guys were able to do out there and some of it was just stuff the Hawks will need to clean up if we want to keep rolling.

You obviously have a lot to look forward to over the next couple years, if not the rest of this season. I saw a defense (especially the DL) who refused to give up. Graham was a monster, as if we didn't know that already. Minor ran HARD. Reminded me a lot of Shonn Greene in the effort he gave each and every play.

Bottom line, I'll be happy to get a win over Michigan any which way it happens and continue to appreciate the class you guys show on the field, in the stands and on these boards.

Best of luck with the rest of the season and knock Penn St. back down a notch or two, as they've gotten a little big for their britches since they've joined the Big Ten.

Trade you our effort for the W?

Seriously though, thanks to the Iowa fanbase for not being like Sparty. This loss doesn't bother me nearly as much knowing I won't get it rubbed in my face incessantly for a year

I have had two experiences with Hawkeye fans over the last week.

Your posts and a guy I sat next to at Starbucks. Both of you were cordial, knowledgeable, and genuinely wished luck to UM.

The Hawkeyes are quickly becoming my second favorite B10 team because of classy fans.

kudos.

True. It was a great game. There seemed to be very little chippy tit for tat BS picked up by the cameras. Or at least if it occurred to was personality to personality and not a team attitude thing. Next year's "revenge" game will be fun.

As someone previously mentioned, this loss does not hurt nearly as much as the MSU one because Iowa fans are much more respectful and will not berate michigan fans all year about it. Things like your post are what draws a lot of respect for the Iowa fanbase. I was at the game last night and the fans were a great crowd. I really wish we had won the game, but the Iowa fans and team really handled themselves in a respectful way after the game.

Grandma and Grandpa were both from IA. Grandpa from Des Moines area as a youth IIRC and Grandma from Bettendorf. After they got married they lived in Davenport and raised 2 boys. My dad lived there until going off to college where he met my Mom. They moved to MI soon after the wedding and raised me there. All of that being said I have always had a very soft place in my heart for the Hawks. Always classy to my knowledge and always well coached. If I had to pick a 2nd favorite team in the B10 there is no doubt that it would be the Hawks. Hate that we lost but good luck to you for the rest of the season. Do us all a favor and kick the crap out of those Bucks for us.

Thanks to you and all the other Iowa fans for staying classy. It really sucks to lose, so it doesn't help to be reminded of it all the time. Iowa is the only other team I root for in the Big Ten, because it seems like the majority of the fans are pretty respectful and classy. Most of the other Big Ten teams are not very classy. I had an Illinois fan making fun of me after the State loss, because everyone thinksthat Michigan is their biggest rival. Anyway thanks.

Yes, the Iowa fans are the best. A lot of fans welcomed me and wished us good luck. A lot of the Iowa college students high-5'ed my friend and I, as to wish us for a good game.

I guess the only annoying thing during my time in Iowa City was the fact the fans rushed the field after the game. I was not sure if they do it for every game, or just did it because they beat Michigan.

I went inside the stadium about 75 mins before the game. Boy, people were not kidding when they said the fans literally were in the sidelines. I took some pictures from the Michigan sidelines, and it seemed like there was only 5-10 yards from the wall to the playing field.

I spotted Brian Cook a few rows down from me. One cool thing about Kinnick stadium is that fans pretty much can loiter in the north corner end of the field. I saw a cop confiscate booze from a guy and let him off with a warning. At Texas, people will be automatically kicked out.

1 Big 10 road venue down and 9 more to go.

Iowa fans, for the most part, are a very tolerable lot of people. I mean, there's only so mean-spirited you can get when your fight song was written by the guy who wrote the Music Man.

The Big Ten in general has a lot to be proud of, at least based on what I've seen so far in televised Michigan games this season that do not involve Michigan State. (The whining about disrespect and Coach D-Bag's ranting is juvenile.)

First of all, Iowa fans are class acts. It's something I miss about the Midwest. Plus I like Hayden Fry because he hated segregation when he was growing up and brought in the first black player in the SWC (Jerry LaVias) when he was coach at SMU. But back to the gamesmanship.

Especially after a preseason full of drama in SEC land with Urban Cryer and Lame Kiffin, it's refreshing to see Big 10 coaches and players show good sportsmanship and respect. I know it sounds cheesy, but I really do feel that good conduct on the field (and between fans) really goes a long way in reflecting well on the conference. I've been very impressed by the on-field gamesmanship displayed so far by Indiana, Iowa, and UM (personal foul aside, but it was probably just too much aggression getting out).
