Rushing the field?

Number 12 team in the nation knocks off an unranked team at home? Why not?

Obviously the fans are not very bright. I can see them doing it after a rivalry game, but this isn't (at least not for us).

Just goes to show people that Michigan always has the target on their backs.

I mean, as a former fan of Iowa, they have to do what they can for one of the only real opponents they face this year. They'll blow a pointless game and finish second or third in the Big Ten.

teams in the Big 10, Michigan is their biggest game of the year.

People would do well to remember this; as noted above we have a giant target on our back from the rest of the conference, not just our big rivals. They love beating us, rebuilding or not.

did they rush after they beat northern iowa by a blocked fg?

honestly, im taking this as a compliment. living in michigan, im a little oblivious to the national perception of our football program. apparently, to the corn folks in iowa, we are there!

Living in Ohio I see how much everyone hates Michigan and considers us as a rival. Even the teams you don't really think about still put a target on our back.. it's definitely a compliment. People hate us because we are the best and beating us is pretty far and in between.

This is one of the better Iowa teams in years. It was a nice win at night against a name team. Was it dumb to rush the field? Sure, but I can understand the excitement. Plus, you can only hang out at the Field of Dreams memorial so many times.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but fans at Kinnick usually always get on the field after every game to celebrate the win with the players. It really has nothing to do with the team they've played; there are always fans on the field afterwards to celebrate with the players, regardless of who they beat.

Thank you for this, I see a lot of fans here reaching for something to criticize Iowa about. Seems pathetic. I mean really we are criticizing them for rushing the field? They beat Michigan, they are now 6-0, and they usually crowd the field. All add up to what we saw last night. It is nice to see such enthusiasm. We are wallowing in mediocrity and therefore reaching for something to re-build our egos, so we go to the pathetic "we are better fans than you are" line. We should be better than what this thread communicates.

I'm sorry, what? We should be better than criticizing the fans of the number 12 ranked school in the country for rushing the field after narrowly avoiding defeat to an unranked, 4-1 team? How, exactly, should we proceed?

It was a silly decision and, as others have said, shows that Iowa really hasn't been there for a long time.

"I'm sorry, what?"

If you pay attention you will see that you answered your own question. It does show Iowa hasn't been there for a long time. So they rushed the field. Because they haven't been there for a long time. It makes sense and is not deserving of criticism. Unless we are just reaching for something to criticize beside the mistakes our team made.

This actually has nothing to do with our team. This has everything to do with the class of a fanbase (and also the standards at the stadium, which apparently are non-existent).

Let's give some examples here:

If Iowa was playing 5-0, unranked Wisconsin, would it have been appropriate to rush? Maybe, but we'd still probably laugh at them doing so.

If Iowa was playing 4-1 Notre Dame? No.

If Iowa was playing 4-2 Northwestern? No.

What about 4-2 Minnesota? Even with the rivalry present, it seems premature and stupid.

These are all teams in the Big Ten, save ND, but like, you get the point. They all have similar records and we'd be looking at Iowa rushing the field against any of them as silly. This isn't just a Michigan thing.
