Also, at least one person voted for us to be unranked.... after beating 3 top ten teams.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:22 PM ^
I think this represents how high and low ranked they have been in the poll this season, not where they were on ballots this week.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
The hi/lo ballet votes would have been interesting, oh well
January 27th, 2014 at 8:49 PM ^
I presume since Drew Sharp has a ballot, he'd be the lo guy on the totem pole.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:22 PM ^
Thats not what that means. It means their lowest ranking was Not Ranked. Meaning like 3 weeks ago. Their highest ranking of the year was at 8.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:34 PM ^
poll. Stil bullshit.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:15 PM ^
The only team M didn't beat is the only team ranked below them. No respect. NO respect, I tells ya.
/s sort of.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
Duke or Iowa State.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:15 PM ^
That's not a very big jump all.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
We were tied for 25th in that poll last week. Mind you, it was a joke that we were tied for 25th, but 11.5 spots is a pretty big jump for January.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:37 PM ^
We actually made the largest jump of any team all season. (On the link, you can see past weeks' polls.) The previous biggest jump was seven spots.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:15 PM ^
I know that the polls dont matter right now, but.....
January 27th, 2014 at 1:16 PM ^
Wow....
If Duke or Kentucky went on the run we went on, they would be an NBA team by now in their eyes.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:16 PM ^
LOLZ that we are below Iowa and Wisconsin. Straight LOLZ.
January 27th, 2014 at 2:30 PM ^
also ahead of Duke and Iowa St.

January 27th, 2014 at 1:21 PM ^
Link? It doesn't appear that the AP has updated yet.

Given our strength of schedule I really expected to be in the top ten.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:18 PM ^
I hope it keeps the hunger strong
January 27th, 2014 at 1:53 PM ^
they play better that way anyway. . .
January 27th, 2014 at 1:19 PM ^
Not great, but I'll take it. We sweep our next three games (Purdue, IU, Nebraska) and we'll probably be top 5.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:19 PM ^
This is why polls are so stupid. Thankfully they are completely meaningless in basketball.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
So there are only 32 coaches that vote in the USA Today poll and only 1 coach is from the Big Ten (Matt Painter, Purdue)? Seems a bit ridiculous
January 27th, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
I actually like this because u take out the bias somewhat
January 27th, 2014 at 2:03 PM ^
How does this take out the bias? You still have 33 coaches with bias, just only one of them in favor of us.
January 27th, 2014 at 2:37 PM ^
these are the voters:
The USA TODAY Sports Board of Coaches is made up of 32 head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The board for the 2013-14 season: Tommy Amaker, Harvard; Randy Bennett, Saint Marys; Jim Boeheim, Syracuse; Rick Byrd, Belmont; Scott Cherry, High Point; Tim Cluess, Iona; Keith Dambrot, Akron; James Dickey, Houston; Scott Drew, Baylor; Matt Driscoll, North Florida; Steve Fisher, San Diego State; Bruiser Flint, Drexel; Tim Floyd, Texas-El Paso; Mark Fox, Georgia; John Gallagher, Hartford; George Ivory, Arkansas-Pine Bluff; Ben Jacobson, Northern Iowa; Rob Jeter, Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Danny Kaspar, Texas State; Mike McConathy, Northwestern State; Greg McDermott, Creighton; Bob McKillop, Davidson; Fang Mitchell, Coppin State; Matt Painter, Purdue; Dave Paulsen, Bucknell; Saul Phillips, North Dakota State; Randy Rahe, Weber State; Herb Sendek, Arizona State; Shaka Smart, Virginia Commonwealth; Andrew Toole, Robert Morris; Don Verlin, Idaho; Bob Williams, UC-Santa Barbara.
you don't have the Big Ten coaches voting for each other to make the conference look that much better like SEC coaches do in football. Do you see Northwestern state with votes in the poll? I just think whatever bias there is it's very limited unlike football.
January 27th, 2014 at 2:38 PM ^
sorry for format. I'm on my phone
January 27th, 2014 at 3:16 PM ^
Very curious to know where Amaker and Fisher voted us.
January 27th, 2014 at 5:06 PM ^
coaches in football tend to vote for their conference brethren. That's not just an SEC trait.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
Awesome. It looks like a poll assembled by the refs at the MSU game, in collaboration with Dick Vitale's drool produced when thinking about Tom Izzo in pajamas.
January 27th, 2014 at 4:02 PM ^
Only Dookie V would figure a way to talk about the ACC and Dook for long stretches of the best B1G basketball game of the current season.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
Beyond lame. There must be a bunch of absolutely stupid ballots filled out.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
Meh. It's basketball. Polls mean nothing. Just get quality wins.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
Keep that fire burning, they don't believe in us! bulletin board material!!
January 27th, 2014 at 1:25 PM ^
The "Biggest Movers" graphic at the top of the page gives me the warm and fuzzies.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:34 PM ^
Yeah, it's fun in both ways. It's cool that we rose the most, and I enjoyed seeing who the biggest dropper was.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:41 PM ^
should be made into a flag that flies proudly across the MGoLand.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:26 PM ^
Ratings and rankings mean nothing at this point, but this is clearly inaccurate.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:29 PM ^
I hate polls. This is dumb.
Better to be the underdog, I guess, and shock the world... again.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:31 PM ^
after you changed the pic in your post my reply made no sense.
January 27th, 2014 at 2:46 PM ^
Yeah, I thought the Hi/Lo was the highest and lowest ranking for the week, which made no sense to me with us being unranked...
Should have read the fine print.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:29 PM ^
3 straight wins against top 10 teams, and not only are we only just the 14th best team in the country in this stupid poll, but evidently the general consensus is that all 3 are better than us?
January 27th, 2014 at 1:56 PM ^
Not to mention we beat two of them on their own courts. Just ugh. This is dumb, and now I feel bad that I've been eagerly awaiting the results.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:31 PM ^
we movedup a lot (11 spots). That is a huge bump, and a similar jump in the AP will get us at #10. But, seems to me we should have passed Wiscy and Iowa, ranked just ahead of us. Esp. Iowa, which also has 4 losses. Hard to see how anyone could have us unranked.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:31 PM ^
This reminds me of the polls my senior yr of high school baseball. We were ranked #9 and Grand Ledge was ranked #6 going into a double header. We beat them twice on their home field and the next week we were unranked and they moved up. Makes tons of sense.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
This is actually much more hilarious. So intrigued with the though behind this.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:40 PM ^
I don't know how old you are, but regardless, it's time you let that one go. High school rankings are 110% political.
January 27th, 2014 at 1:52 PM ^
Never forget! It's my go-to story to illustrate how stupid polls are.
