Josh Furman, Richard Ash, and Thomas Rawls granted releases

Submitted by Leaders And Best on

Not a huge surprise as Richard Ash and Josh Furman were both redshirt juniors. Hopefully they both get their degrees this spring and find a place to play next year like Michael Cox.

Michigan spokesman says Josh Furman, Richard Ash and Thomas Rawls have all been granted transfer releases.

Running back?  Maybe WR?  I saw him play a couple games in MD when he was in high school.  He was a great athlete, ran a little upright, but with great linear speed.  I was among the many that had high hopes for him at UM.

Ash is the only one of the group that even remotely surprises me and that's only because we have ZERO depth at NG right now with Pipkins out.

I'm guessing Henry will slide over and Wormley will move into the DT/3-tech spot.

and best of luck to all of them as they continue their careers. I don't think any of this is a surprise.

Does this qualify as a mass exodus as a high school student predicted? /s

Both were probably not going to be in the 2-deep next year. Asking a lot of a kid to return for a 5th year if he will not see the field and already has his degree. Similar to Mike Cox, Rocko Khoury, Terrence Robinson, and Mike Jones. Some kids want to go somewhere for the 5th year where they can play or just start their life after football.

well hopefully the coaches were honest about slim to none chances of playing time and gave these guys a gentle nudge as it benefits both parties.  kids get their degrees and have chance to transfer to school where thye might get some clock.  and um benefits in terms of scholarships and does what all good programs must do and thats not renew 5th years for marginal players with no hope of impactful p t.   unless the kids a legit team leader or theres extenuating circumstances, 5th years should not be granted to bench warming types (ie mike jones) ....not even a question when weighed against the prospect of recruting 1 more kid who could be impact player as fresh or soph let alone jr or sr....all teams competing for championshps do it and some rather ruthlessly, great to see hoke valuing all 85 (even if couldve done sooner).  best of luck to those cats, degree in hand and hopefully busting someones chops for another program this fall

Has to be hard to be a back up and not get reps when the team is average and your position group is not very good, starters are not getting the job done and younger recruits get a chance ahead of you. These guys may not have lit it up, but neither did the guys ahead of them on the chart. Go forth and play young men.

Mundy was already on the Giants' roster, but started playing regularly when our Stevie Brown went down for the season.  Made some nice plays.

Speaking of Stevie Brown, he was the guest player-expert repping the Giants (along with a longtime retired Jets star) on NY's Fox station for their perspectives on the upcoming Super Bowl.  Stevie was terrific.  Seriously.  No M bias.  (Well, a little.  But he was still terrific.)   So he's now officially a star.

Ash would finally be able to contribute next year, but can't say I'm surprised.  Good luck fellas

Can one of you obsessed (compliment) Michigan football fans enlighten a less obsessed fan where the team now stands with regard to spots available for the 2014 class? Perhaps a new thread is in order?

I think we need an updated depth chart. By my count, I see that there are 83 scholarships allocated for next year but that assumes no scholarships for guys who came in as walkons (Kerridge, Burzynski, G Glasgow, R Glasgow, Kenny Allen, and JJ McGrath). Earlier post says 82 based on Brian's depth chart but I cant tie out to his numbers even though I have same exact list.

Being an athlete and being a student is tough.  Way tougher than anyone realizes.

I wish them all well in their future and they will always be Michigan Men in my book.  Like mentioned above, I hope they were able to graduate or get enough credits to finish college soon.

Came in with so much recruiting hype, was stuck on the bench for most of his time here and then evolved as a starter toward the end of 2013.

And now he's gone?  I wish both of these guys the best, but does that mean that the younger guys at those positions are so much better that these guys would transfer out?

Hope they got their degrees.

Thanks for your time at Michigan.  Hope you earned that degree (or are in a position to do so elsewhere), and find success at football and whatever comes after.

Yeah, I know they won't be reading this.
