If the Jets weren't a terrible team in a small market he would have a shot, but MacKinnon is running away with the Calder.

He's already playing the #1 role in Winnipeg, 1st unit PK, 2nd unit PP, late game situations, he does it all. I think Trouba can win the Norris sometime in the next five years.

Mackinnon is playing at a high level and looks like a shoe-in. defense in the NHL is a tough way to break in to that league. Seth Jones will eventually be the best dman in that draft year.

TROUBA (my phone autocorrects to all caps) is on his way to being of the best US born defensemen ever (Jones is too). That's not exaggeration. He's great with his stick and can certainly be a weapon with the puck at his stick. The main thing that he'll have to work on is being stronger in front of his own net. He'll have to be able to block out opposing forwards in front of his own net. He's only 19 though. I think he and Jones represent a golden age of US defensemen.

He's already more disciplined than Big Buff even though TROUBA does like to get up the ice. And we know he likes to dish out a big boom too.

I would've loved to have him on this year's team but he had nothing left to prove in college. Glad he's doing well in the pros. The successes of JMFJ and Trouba make it more likely we'll find another in their lineage down the road
