Late Afternoon Open Thread

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on

Early games are still in action, but wanted to get this out before I lose focus and forget. Not a lot of 3:30pm games compared to usual. Keep an eye on Wisconsin vs a real opponent (OSU) and Indiana. Virginia has made a living playing horrible in September than come alive in October.

I'll have the TV on Wisconsin@OSU and Bama'@OleMiss, and ESPN360 on Indiana@UVa. Game that I'll probably miss but want to see is Oregon@UCLA.

The mid-afternoon/early-evening shift via AwfulAnnouncing, chronologically then by my interest:

2pm

  • New Mexico @ Wyoming (MTN)

3:30pm

  • Alabama @ Mississippi (CBS)
  • Wisconsin @ Ohio State (ABC/ESPN)
  • Oregon @ UCLA (ABC)
  • Indiana @ Virginia (ESPN360)
  • Connecticut @ Pittsburgh (ABC/ESPN)
  • Navy @ Rice (CBS College Sports)
  • Baylor @ Oklahoma (ABC)
  • Bowling Green @ Kent State (FS Ohio)
  • Georgia Southern @ North Carolina (ESPN360)
  • Marshall @ Tulane (CSS, CST)
  • Gardner-Webb @ Buffalo (Time Warner-NY)

4pm

  • Duke @ North Carolina State (ESPNU)

6pm

  • Utah @ Colorado State (MTN)

6:30pm

  • Maryland @ Wake Forest (ESPN360)

So far so good for Wisconsin. No points scored but their defense is holding serve and doing a good job against Pryor, who BTW, is going to get his receivers killed on plays like the last one.

in Wisconsin's favor, +10 yards per possession. One has the feelinng this game will be another 21ish-17ish affair, with the team getting the big turnover coming out on top. I'm betting on a big Pryor INT.

I am so jealous of OSU's tackling. I have seen two plays already where the defender (once a LB and once a CB) made a superb open-field tackle.

Also: Wisconsin is putting together a nice drive here. 1st-10 from the 31.

EDIT: Just as I begin to praise Wisky, Tolzien throws a pick. WTF.

Baylor was going to go on 4th and 8 but had a false start. They caught the pass before the play died. Instead they punt. Still 0-0 12:01 left in 2Q.

Baylor's backup QB (as they lost Griffin for the year) has looked really good. Not very mobile, but just enough. Made some good, accurate throws despite a lack of arm strength.

Did anyone else grimace when they heard the final score of the Vols/Dogs game? I couldn't be happier if Kiffin lost every game he coaches at UT.

The final score was 45-19 Tennessee.
