MBB #25 in USA Today Poll
I find this to be a travesty, but it is also a meaningless midseason poll.
Sparty#3
Badgers #8
Iowa #10
Buckeyes #18

Edited because the machines failed me.

is when we use intelligent words appropriately, but spell them incorrectly.

Wouldn't that have to do with spelling and not grammar?

As opposed to spelling words correctly, but using them inappropriately?

Ironically I do this, too.

Your comma is in the wrong, place.
January 20th, 2014 at 3:10 PM ^
He does need another comma after "ironically," but the one he noted is correct, too.
January 20th, 2014 at 3:21 PM ^
The one contained is superfluous. But I didn't neg your comment, btw.
January 20th, 2014 at 3:32 PM ^
Well, it is one of those cases where it's OK to use or not use.
Also, I don't care if my comments get negged.

Since we were last ranked 25th in the coaches poll, we've gone 7-1, with the only loss being a 2-point game to the #1 team in the country.
January 20th, 2014 at 3:08 PM ^
I didn't realize that at all. That's completely insane. Just wow.

I think a lot of voters dismissed our team when they saw the 6-4 record, and now we're having a hard time disassociating from that stigma in their minds.
That darn Charlotte loss is such a burden on this team's recognition (the weird thing is, we totally outplayed them, but it was the rare situation where you lose basically because everyone had an off-shooting game).
The RPI-sinkers we've played aren't helping either, since voters seem to look to the RPI for validation.
It matters because the rankings are a big factor in tourney seeding.

Should we be ranked higher ? Absolutley. Do I care ? No. Our ranking won't effect the big ten race and if were in the title race at the last few games of the season we will be a top 15 team no doubt and in position to have a chance in march.
January 20th, 2014 at 2:06 PM ^
and we will continue to move up. If we win both, we will move up a lot -- we will have as good a resume as the four-loss Kansas squad.

The average ranking of the three MBB ranking threads is 22.

We had some bad early season losses that are penalizing us. None of this matters - keep winning and good things will happen.

UNCC.
Losing to #1 at home by 2 is not bad.
Losing at two top 20 teams not bad either.
January 20th, 2014 at 3:07 PM ^
Eh, basketball rankings are extremely pointless. Just win the conference and you're a top five seed.
January 20th, 2014 at 3:29 PM ^
"Just win the conference..."
Easier said than done. Also, I'd say that "just" winning this conference will very likely make someone a #1 or #2 seed, not just a top five seed.
January 20th, 2014 at 3:33 PM ^
Well, being in the top five includes 1 and 2. I didn't mean they would be 5 in the top 5.
January 20th, 2014 at 3:13 PM ^
I think we're severely underrated given our 7 game win streak (and the game before that was a 2 point home loss to 18-0 Arizona), though we may be penalized for our conference start [@Minn, Northwestern, @Nebraska, Penn State, and @Wisconsin is a whole lot less inspiring without that win over Wisconson].
While I agree that polls technically aren't meaningful, they do bring a lot for program visibility, recruits, energize matchups, etc.

lol Coaches Poll. The little midget to the northwest probably didn't rank us at all.
