Denbrock is named the OC, but Brian Kelly will call the plays next year.

I always wondered: what is the point of an OC if you don't let him call the plays?

For some reason, this is how I see their relationship.

Kelly had better start hitting the squat rack, STAT.

of pointing the guantlet sled the right way. Kelly does not want to that anymore

Rich Rod did/does the same thing with Calvin Magee. It's a "Imma help my buddy get a head coaching job by giving him a fancy title" thing. Offensive coordinator in name only.
See "associate/assistant head coach."

Well it looks like we got the biggest hire so far in the midwest. ND and Ohio's hires aren't as impressive as Nussmeier.

The Nuss Bus.

I hear that song "Hop on the Nuss Bus" to the song "Fifty ways to Leave a Lover". Real lyric "Hop on the bus, Gus". It has been stuck in my head for days.

There are plenty of recruits tweeting how excited they are about Nuss too. As if that's the definitive measure, anyway.

notre dame got a pretty big name DC hire

As for the ND hire, Kelly promotes from within so he can call the plays without much head-butting. Can only help his NFL chances if he does it successfully. Only a matter of time.

You really needed me to clarify that I meant Borges has only been an OC and never strictly a QB coach with an OC above him?
[Seth Meyers voice]
Really?

If he was the outside receivers coach, does that mean they have an inside receivers coach?
January 15th, 2014 at 8:09 AM ^
No they have a different coach in dome stadiums.
January 15th, 2014 at 10:07 AM ^
Yes, they do.
Denbrock coaches outside receivers. Tony Alford coaches the running backs and slot receivers.

So, by sticking with Denbrock and also by hiring VanGorder, it looks as if Kelly might very well be getting the old Grand Valley State band back together, as I believe both of these guys worked with him there at various points. Obviously, Denbrock was already on staff at ND, but still, it looks like Kelly tends to stand by the familiar when it comes to hires.
Also, as ken725 notes above "outside receivers coach" is not something you see every day, but reading the entire profile, you see several tight ends among his "dynamic disciples", whatever this means. I assume he works a lot with "other guys that will catch passes on occasion".

And the media will still hype it more than any other game.

Because in a spread offense, the slot receiver is really more of a hybrid running back. So they put the slot receivers with the running backs for practice.

To hell with Notre Dame. That is all

Doesn't this kind of rule out Borges?
If he joined ND and beat us with a spread attack and Golson, I would about crap myself.
