I have had faith in Hoke and I know he will do the right thing...yes youth was an issue, but obviously Hoke felt it was more than that...I am sure he waited this long because Wilson Spreicht.....

No hard feelings or ill will towards Borges despite me being critical of him during the season. He's a good guy and hope he lands somewhere in the NFL or on some other football team.

Now we can move forward and it should be interesting who we get to run the offense in the future.

Brandon Brown just tweeted that "Borges wasn't in contact with QB targets since around the OSU game. Writing may have been on the wall."

Why was he fired today? My best guess is that the early enrollees started classes today. Maybe Hoke was worried that he may have lost some recruits if they'd fired him a week ago.

I know that Borges is, by all accounts, a good guy, and that personal relationships mean a lot. But I can't imagine that a top RB recruit would be too pissed at missing the chance to play in an offense that featured another top RB recruit yet was one of the worst rushing teams in the country.

A God after all! MOAR 2014!!

Also, there is no way DB had anything to do with this--because it made sense.

This really encourages me about Hoke being our head coach. I was beginning to believe he actually believed in his coach speak, lack of execution, youth, bs excuses.

Shocking nonetheless!

Borges had to go. Hoke needed to show that he simply wouldn't accept failure and also create some optimism for the future. Check and check. As far as who we should hire, I'm cool with Mazzone from UCLA or Applewhite from Texas if Charlie Strong doesn't retain him. Lane Kiffin seems like a bit of a reach but he'd up Michigan's profile even more and can recruit with the best of them. I'm not expecting a splashy hire, but I'd be happy with one.

I thought it was a formality once we rushed for negative yardage in successive weeks.  Let's hope we find someone that can find a way to run the ball, and maybe even someone that can make adjustments and has constraint plays.

I didn't think Hoke would go this route.  I'm surprised.   My second thought , after "wow", was that I hope this doesn't adversely affect recruiting.

may I recommend you call it the Borges?

I am anticipating a fast replacement as the freeze is off in a week. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a good idea who the replacement will be. Best wishes to Al.

I come back home from some bomb ass Chinese food to receive this news?

Seriously tho, this is just conformation that Hoke understands whats on the line here. Loyalty means plenty, but not more than losing your dream job.

Now the hard part awaits. Lets actually find someone competent.

Great move by Hoke, this buys him time until 2015 because if Mattison doesnt perform next year then we could see a new DC for 2015 season..

He was paid a huge salary to succeed, but he failed miserably and never took responsibility for the results.  The sappy feelings expressed by so many on this board are juvenile.

the news was released a couple hours ago and has not been mentioned on ESPN yet. However, if anyone has not heard yet, Manziel is going to the NFL! Tune in to ESPN and you will hear all about it...for the next 11 days!

Anyways, I'm looking forward to a positive change. Go Blue!

I'm sure he worked hard, doing what he thought was best for the team (despite what some think, he was not intentionally trying to fail). Always a bittersweet moment because you never like to revel in someone being fired and them having to uproot their family (again) and start all over somewhere else. I hope he does well at his next stop.

Having said that, it wasn't working here. I'm glad someone had the balls to do it (whether it be Hoke or Brandon) and I hope we spend the money to get someone great. This move certainly bumps up my faith in Brady as a head coach
