Michael Thorton update from Sam Webb
Thorton (Scout 4 star DT from GA) maintains M on his list according to Webb in today's Det News here:

And discusses coming for a visit. It doesn't look promising however, since he has lots of good to say about Auburn, Miami and GA, and also Hopson is his recruiter. Any talented DT is worth hoping for, so fingers crossed on this one despite the indications

The kid is from the south. Football down there is a different beast. Of course the kid won't say anything bad about teams he may play for. The fans would go crazy.
If he's willing to come up here, good. If he's serious about academics, as well as athletics, Michigan has a good shot.

for DT's from the South isn't promising, though.

His LBs aren't looking too good either.

Good, Hopson is due to bring in a good recruit. We're still on the outside looking in, but at least we're making headway.

Is like saying that the Coner is "due" for a 300 yard pass, 100 yard run and three touchdown game. We'd all love to see that happen but the chances are fairly slim. No offense to Hopson and especially the Coner

maybe it would be wise to have him in charge of WR recruiting next year.

Good stuff, but it's hard to draw any conclusions from such articles. I remember when Sam wrote one about Clay, saying how we had such a good chance at him, only for Clay to commit to Oklahoma a couple of days later. It happened similarly with Caleb Lavey. Too hard to know what's going on inside a recruit's mind. Anyway, it's encouraging that Thorton is considering us, and that the staff is working hard to get some quality defensive recruits here.

for this years recruits? Or who else besides Thornton we are in on due to his recruiting efforts?

That answered my question(s). The only player he is recruiting that is not committed that looks like we are in real good shape with is Grimes.
Does anyone find it unusual that Hopson is our LB coach (I know he coaches the inside), while only serving as a secondary coach (for position) and a few years a D-Coordinator.

from Thorton, "I'll play in any kind of weather," he said matter-of-factly. "Shoot, I've been in the South for a long time. It gets hot. I would rather it be cold than too hot."
I love players with that attitude - i don't care where, i don't care who is in front of me - i'm going to pay ball and get an education.

He's ranked too high. Michael Hart, Pat White, Steve Slaton were all three stars why doesn't rich rod see the pattern ughh
