OT - Snowmageddon POSBANG

Submitted by TatuajeVI on

The weather predictions for today and tonight have been all over the news with warnings of a nasty winter storm, so what better excuse for a POSBANG?! North of Detroit, we've only gotten about an inch of snow so far. The weather reports are saying the afternoon should bring the heaviest snow. Possible accumulation of 8-14 inches depending on your area. Monday and Tuesday we may set records for low temperatures. Be safe out there!

I thought it was all hyperbole, and that we might get a couple of inches at best. I scoffed even more late last night when the snow that was supposed to come didn't come. I joke woke up and walked past the patio doors and I'm now I'm eating crow.

We're going to watch some NFL football today and observe the snow. I'm so looking forward to the drive in the morning.

so I hope you preplanned or you could be in for a difficult day. Have a safe day. Enjoy a UM basketball victory and some playoff football. Go Blue!

yesterday afternoon in Ann Arbor, and it was crazy in both places.  All the parking spaces in front of the Krogers on Maple were taken.  Surprisingly, the checkout line didn't take that long.  Glad we were able to avoid Meijer's.  I hope everyone who has to travel, does so safely.  The Michigan basketball game should end before the really heavy stuff arrives.

Be careful all you MGoNortherners. I can remember being in sub zero temps, but it's been about 9 or 10 years ago. I miss the fun aspects of winter, but when it's miserable it makes me thankful that I live in south Florida.

We are getting like 3-4 inches from this storm tops. I will agree that it is the shitty "tough to drive in" snow, but still nothing close to these doomsday predictions. This is just the national retailers association trying to move some old inventory.

Americans might be the most easily frightened sheep on the planet. Costco and Krogers were wiped out by panicked, goggle-eyed, spittle-flecked hordes afraid that a few inches of frozen water were going to mean the end of western civilization. Many of these same people will think nothing of spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars traveling to locations specifically because of the accumulation of lots of snow so they can go swishing down the slopes on old barrel staves.

This is Michigan, ferfucksakes: it snows.

London and Paris.  Just the mention of coming snowfall scared the crap out of people in both places and the stores were packed.  (I heard about the "coming storm" when I was in London and then it happened when I was in Paris a few days later.)  It turned out to be a pretty modest dusting.  It would not have been enough to close anything down here, but quite a few businesses were closed over there.

This article came out the same winter I was there:

The Nordic/Eastern European countries are probably a little thicker-skinned, but Western Europeans completely lose it at the sight of the stuff coming down.
