Orange Bowl Open Thread
Tajh Boyd vs Braxton Miller. Lots of offense expected.
Let's hope Clemson's offense shows up for their bowl game this year.
Line: OSU -2.5
Over/Under: 71.5
Edit:
2014 Orange Bowl final score
Clemson: 40
Ohio: 35
Big night for Clemson offense
Sammy Watkins. 16 receptions for 227 yards (an Orange Bowl and Clemson record) and two touchdowns. What a beast!
Tajh Boyd also set an Orange Bowl record with 486 total yards.
I heard this was the first time Ohio lost when they score 35+ points. (insert sad panda here)

They're going to do a segment on Woody Hayes punching a player, so this is already worth watching.
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:36 PM ^
Woody was performing CPR
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:50 PM ^
had it coming.
January 3rd, 2014 at 11:04 PM ^
Dude shouldn't have stolen a pass that wasn't meant for him.
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:36 PM ^
I have a feeling that Clemson might have 2000 yards passing tonight. Bradley Roby is out.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:18 PM ^
Also Ohio State's defensive end Noah Spence is out who happens to be their best pass rusher. Boyd should have time to throw.
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:42 PM ^
Can't lose...if they win, B1G looks better, if they lose, OSU loses.
Its kinda a win-win, no matter who wins.
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:43 PM ^
Is he going pro? I doubt it, but I want it to happen.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:07 PM ^
I sort of think he should. He's probably not a QB and he probably knows it. Another year as a college QB won't convince anyone he's a pro WR or RB.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:19 PM ^
He's not going pro. Why leave a year early then if he'll never convince teams he's a real QB?
January 3rd, 2014 at 9:29 PM ^
Prresumably he'd switch positions. If he wants to graduate, be a senior, etc, then stay. Otherwise, just switch now and train for position drills.
I think if you've maxed your stock and will get drafted, you should go pro.

Clemson is 3rd in passing and 11th in rushing.
Ohio is 3rd in rushing and 89th (!) in passing.
Clemson Pro Tip: stop the run.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:20 PM ^
Easier said than done with Hyde and Miller. Hyde is a load to take down.
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:47 PM ^
Sorry guys....If Urban Meijer punches a player tonight at any point I'm switching sides to Ohio State
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:53 PM ^
Just wanted to lock this in for posterity.
January 3rd, 2014 at 7:54 PM ^
Wait...if he punches somebody that makes you want to root for his team?
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:09 PM ^
Woody Hayes punched a Clemson player, which ended his coaching career at OSU.
January 3rd, 2014 at 9:23 PM ^
Yeah...so he will go to (back to) the buckeyes if Meyer gets the boot? I have to say that reads as sort of strange given their last long-term coach (assuming the resistance is about sliminess--it sure shouldn't be wins and losses!)
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:25 PM ^
lol wut?
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:04 PM ^
Could we just make this the bowl open thread? The Cotton Bowl will be as good if not a better game than the Orange.
EDIT: Nevermind.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:05 PM ^
Ohio sucks.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:08 PM ^
This game has the potential to be incredibly ugly for Ohio's defense. I'd be pretty shocked if it isn't, actually...
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:17 PM ^
but then they showed the failed 2 pt conversion. I hope Sammy Watkins has 500 yds receiving
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:18 PM ^
Recruitment of Boyd and Watkins?
I can't remember much about Boyd, but wasn't Watkins about to commit then all the RR getting fired talk started to get hot and heavy and he decided on Clemson.
Trying to explain it to a non -UM fan of mine and can't remember the specifics.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:22 PM ^
Watkins was a silent commit. Was going to announce it and then RR firing talk started getting heavy.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:24 PM ^
Sounds like message board conspiracy theory talk
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:26 PM ^
Did UM ever get anywhere with Boyd?
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:19 PM ^
There is no reason Sammy Watkins will not set all the records tonight.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:24 PM ^
Please be right.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:19 PM ^
I hate that ESPN just assumes everyone in the SEC is not fast or athletic. Ohio State has a number of players from Florida, did they get slow by going to a Big Ten school?
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:28 PM ^
and most of their other guys not named Sammy Watkins.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:28 PM ^
They had to show the punch!
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:30 PM ^
I was 8 when that happened and I still remember it vividly. Woody was obviously completely unhinged at that point and thus a perfect patriach for OSU football.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:31 PM ^
With the white numbers. Even in HD it doesn't show well.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:31 PM ^
We should've beaten these clowns.
Sigh
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:33 PM ^
The sad part about the Woody punch is that it will forever be shown without proper context. As Bo explained after Woody died, Woody was diabetic and wasn't always on top of his blood sugar. When he punched Bauman, at the end of a tense game, he was so out of his mind in a sugar crash he had no idea what he was doing. When you watch the film, he's visibly dazed.
It's sad he'll always be remembered for that, especially with this game being hyped around that incident.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:52 PM ^
I've seen it happen with a close relative who is extremely diabetic. His sugar crashed and he essentially lost track of where he was and what he was doing, and even got uncharacteristically aggressive. The symptoms are sometimes mistaken for drunkenness, too. Watching Woody in that moment, it's exactly what was happening.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:37 PM ^
Oh well.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:37 PM ^
What if it had been his wife?
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:40 PM ^
Had he been an alcoholic who didn't stay on top of his addiction, would Bo have been so eager to sympathize with Woody?
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:47 PM ^
terrible comparison.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:57 PM ^
First of all, the only person who would know that was a mitigating factor was Woody and clearly he would have a huge motive to lie to everyone including friends and family. Secondly, even if true, it is at best a mitgating factor and not a total defense to the act. He has been and should be roundly criticized for unpardonable sin.
January 3rd, 2014 at 9:04 PM ^
While that's technically true, you can't blame Woody's blood sugar for him throwing sideline markers at the ref in 71 or punching the ABC TV camera at the big house in 77.
As extreme as it was, I doubt many people were surprised when he punched the player given his history of dumbass behavior.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:36 PM ^
draftees. Shazier, Watkins, and Roby are guys who would fill a Lion need.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:36 PM ^
Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:36 PM ^
Looked like 5 or 6 Buckeyes could've grabbed him but nope
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:37 PM ^
Ohio State's defense blows dogs for quarters.
January 3rd, 2014 at 8:37 PM ^
Holy Crap! Boyd is fast. Faster than he looked at the end of the season. Must be healed up a bit.
