Update: East Lansing Police Respond to Fires
"We're expecting people to celebrate with class, but we're also prepared for the possibility that some people will choose to use great occasions like this as an excuse to engage in criminal behavior," said Nathan Triplett, East Lansing Mayor.

The fact that most MSU students are on winter break - or that temperatures are in the single digits - or that there are several inches of snow on the ground apparently have not put a complete halt to fires following the Spartans victory in the Rose Bowl.
But they did seem to dampen the spirits of people who wanted to celebrate by burning something...
East Lansing firefighters say they've responded to five fires...

Guaranteed there's a "disturbance" around Cedar Village tonight. A justified disturbance if there ever was one for East Lansing

If you are a couch in East Lansing...god speed my friend.
January 1st, 2014 at 9:54 PM ^
Thanks

Perfect

If you can, stop, drop, and roll.

Holy shit
January 1st, 2014 at 9:43 PM ^
More couch burning? Let em burn. Once every 26 years is cause for celebration.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:30 PM ^
At 16 years and counting, Michigan is well over halfway there.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:36 PM ^
Ya, but who's counting? Anyway, it won't reach 17.

I have faith we rebound but winning the rose bowl next year.... I'd love some of what you're smoking.
January 2nd, 2014 at 5:10 AM ^
It's a nice thought, and until they prove me wrong....
January 2nd, 2014 at 9:49 AM ^
You'd have said the same thing about Sparty a year ago. All of the analysis and projection we do in the offseason seldom has anything to do with what really happens.
January 2nd, 2014 at 5:11 AM ^
considering that next year's Rose Bowl is a national semifinal game.
January 1st, 2014 at 9:48 PM ^
I wish Ann Arbor was having this problem tonight.
January 1st, 2014 at 9:50 PM ^
Me too. Unfortunately the Wings lost in a shootout.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:24 PM ^
Shocker. They only save those kinds of losses for special occasions.....or every occasion.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:26 PM ^
I really hate the salary cap. I miss the days of Illitch loading up the team with all stars.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:38 PM ^
Well done! You have been busy today, Professor. Well over a million posts and up votes to get out of your hole. Time to take a breather and drink a nice cold cocktail. You have earned it.
January 1st, 2014 at 11:07 PM ^
Ann Arbor has the porch couch ban though...
January 2nd, 2014 at 12:18 AM ^
Stole it immediately.
January 1st, 2014 at 9:50 PM ^
The only burning of anything in Ann Arbor is Brady Hoke burning his Hot Pocket.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:11 PM ^
Brady Hoke is a 2-HotPocket minimum type of guy. So "hot pockets" would probably be the correct term.
January 1st, 2014 at 9:50 PM ^
As much as I hate to use the word "classy" in relation to EL, I think the Mayor's statement was, indeed, classy.
January 1st, 2014 at 9:51 PM ^
If we were 13-1 and won the Rose Bowl I'd probably burn some stuff too.
January 1st, 2014 at 9:52 PM ^
It's 11 degrees in East Lansing right now. Their usual celebration stupidity would reach a whole new classification of stupidity if they head outside for that tonight.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:39 PM ^
11 degrees is a sound reason to burn some couches. That is cold.
January 1st, 2014 at 9:53 PM ^
in town its winter break, nothing will happen and they will claim moral victory.
January 1st, 2014 at 9:54 PM ^
Really??
January 1st, 2014 at 10:05 PM ^
We expect people to celebrate with class? Really? Have you met these people? I'm happy for my friends who are spartan fans and all, and I'm seriously jealous, but when you already know this will be a likely problem, suggesting a knowledge of classy celebration is simply awkward. Be direct and say don't burn any damn couches or cars or we will prosecute you in the most severe manner possible.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:11 PM ^
Will there be any couch-burnings in PASADENA? That would be something else entirely.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:24 PM ^
They have designer couches there.
January 2nd, 2014 at 12:29 AM ^
You can't blame 'em, they ain't never seen Versace sofas
January 1st, 2014 at 10:56 PM ^
If someone burned the couch from their hotel room there it would be hilarious!
January 1st, 2014 at 10:11 PM ^
Yeah, well, celebration's what you get when you're good at football.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:26 PM ^
Forgive us. It's been so long we forgot that.
January 1st, 2014 at 10:42 PM ^
For what it is worth, Fox 17 is reporting relative calm so far - HERE
It mentions a fire which was quickly put out, but very little activity up to this point. By theirg figuring (and as a resident of MI, I get it), it could be the bitter cold or the fact that school doesn't start back up until this coming Monday.
January 1st, 2014 at 11:14 PM ^
It's cold. They are Sparty.
They will burn the sofas inside their houses.
January 1st, 2014 at 11:25 PM ^
I'm burning some Reggie right now...
January 2nd, 2014 at 3:23 AM ^
If the couch is on fire let the mother fucka burn
If were talking about sparty, homie I ain't concerned
January 2nd, 2014 at 4:35 AM ^
Why even poke fun at our rivals anymore? It's pathetic. We are absolutely fucking horrible and have been for going on a decade. I have been a fan for 20 years and I will admit that it's getting harder and harder as we slip past mediocrity into down-right embarrassing to watch. Incompetent coaching staff, and a revolving door in the coach's office. A defense coached by a "defensive genius" that gives up 50 to Indiana. An offense that I don't even have to touch on. A "True Michigan Man" tough guy, short sleeve in the cold, no headset jack-off as a head coach.
Fuck this team. I am sick of hearing: "We didn't execute" in the post game interviews.
January 2nd, 2014 at 5:13 AM ^
Simmer down, Francis.
January 2nd, 2014 at 8:13 AM ^
Its Lighten up, Francis. Just to help out...
January 2nd, 2014 at 6:31 AM ^
You're going to see a lot of those "simmer down", "step back from the ledge" crap remarks, but the truth is, you're right.
January 2nd, 2014 at 6:32 AM ^
you would prefer the coach to answer with "next question" ?
you watched the game, you know what happend. Why do you need to the coach to repeat it after the game?
Furthermore, if our local media and bandwagon fans didn't give our last coach that was open to the media the torch and pitch-fork treatment, perhaps this one would be a little more open. He certainly was while at Ball State and SDSU. Why the change at Michigan? He must know something.
January 2nd, 2014 at 7:45 AM ^
This thread is still dumb
January 2nd, 2014 at 7:52 AM ^
and it's really dang cold here. How else is a guy supposed to warm up besides lighting up a bit of furniture?
January 2nd, 2014 at 8:28 AM ^
Exactly what I am thinking. If there ever is a good time to burn something, it's when the temperature is almost in the single digits.
