Rose Bowl Open Thread

The Granddaddy of them all! The 100th Rose Bowl. Number 4 Michigan State vs. Number 5 Stanford. Who are you guys taking in this game and why? I like Stanford so I wouldn't mind to see them win. I do think the perception of the Big Ten is somewhat important, but I also don't think the Big Ten being that great matters a whole lot. I'm cheering for neither team though. I am just hoping for a good quality game.

The line favors Stanford by 5.5 points. Michigan State has the best defense in the country. Stanford has one of the best ground and pound teams in the country.

F/+ Projection: Stanford 20, Michigan State 11
Win Probability: Stanford 73%

  Michigan St Stanford
Actual Score 0 0
Most Likely 13 17
Median 13 17
Mean 14.63 19.37
Win Probability 36% 64%

I'll be interested to see if, after an analysis, our leaders decide to not make any changes. If we don't make changes and have a similar year then just don't know anymore. Will be an interesting next couple of weeks.

There is no doubt that MSU's D is good, but it's not like it's a particularly novel or complicated scheme.  They simply rely on the fact that your WRs won't be able to beat their corners 1 on 1, and thanks to medicore receivers on pretty much every team they play, it works.

From what we could see it sure did t look like anyone was outside of 3 yards down field, which is ok. I guess that's why they didn't announce a number.

And no 99 wasn't downfield

It's awful to think about all the Highschool football players who watched a listless Michigan team get killed by Kansas State and are now watching State in a great position to win the Rose Bowl.  If I was a highschool recruit who wasn't already deeply entrenched in Michigan fandom, it would be hard not to see State as the more ideal location to go right now.  The up-and-coming recruits probably don't remember/care about when Michigan was a yearly power, they just see State rolling of 11-win seasons and Bowl victories.

Can't help but feel bad for Gallon, Lewan etc., who never got to experience a Rose Bowl and now have to watch State enjoy it.  Definitely not what they had planned dfor their time at Michigan.
