Rose Bowl Open Thread
The Granddaddy of them all! The 100th Rose Bowl. Number 4 Michigan State vs. Number 5 Stanford. Who are you guys taking in this game and why? I like Stanford so I wouldn't mind to see them win. I do think the perception of the Big Ten is somewhat important, but I also don't think the Big Ten being that great matters a whole lot. I'm cheering for neither team though. I am just hoping for a good quality game.
The line favors Stanford by 5.5 points. Michigan State has the best defense in the country. Stanford has one of the best ground and pound teams in the country.
F/+ Projection: Stanford 20, Michigan State 11

That's the difference with Dantonio - that sort of play under old Sparty regimes meant the end of Sparty for the day as they mentally implode. These teams bounce right back like gumby.

Super conservative teams play right into MSU's hands. No reason to not run that out if you are going to kneel anyway.

I don't understand how this Stanford defense is allowing Cook to do anything he wants. It's Connor Cook.

You should at least take a few shots there with 28 seconds left.

We are not super young everywhere - take out the interior of the OL and almost all starters on UM are upperclassmen. All except Ross and Countess and one DE that start were upperclassmen on D. The backups are young, as are every team in America. Go through the starters on defense - they are not freshman and sophomores. Its a myth to make people feel better about the underachievement. The starting RB was a sr, Gallon is a sr, both tackles are srs, our QB is an upperclassmen, etc. Except for TEs and interior line on offense the team's starters had plenty of upperclassmen.

Blake Countess is a red shirt sophomore and Raymon Taylor is a junior...those are the starting corners.

Ben Gedeon - true freshman - looks (is) bigger than all our LBs outside of Ryan. That says a lot. He looked bigger than Cam, than Beyer, than Morgan, and of course Ross who is built smaller.

They are all on PEDs - I read it right here on another thread. That is the ONLY way MSU can take 2-3 stars and do this! It must be all PEDs.
EDIT: there ya go, the comment just above mine is illustrative.

Would it honestly shock you if they were? It's not real typical for the #1 total D in the country to be made up of 3-star recruits - and we know drug testing in this sport is a joke.

PEDs are being used at Wiscy, MSU and OSU. Also at Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Stanford and Oregon. But not Auburn in 2012, only in 2013. Only UM and Texas and Tennessee dont use PEDs and you can see why they underachieve.

I'm wondering if they're achieving their results through entirely clean means.

Riddle me this.
How does 36 yards on 9 carries come out to 3.2 YPC?

Is stanford's band full of hipsters or what?

Love the Stanford band. Be even better if they were on the field during plays.

Stanford's band looks fun.

No it's Hoke's fault. A new coach would make Thomas Gordon grow a couple inches.

Would it make him get beat less?

Wow! You mean safetys are supposed to actually play the ball and not watch the receiver catch it as he gets beat?
