Rose Bowl Open Thread

The Granddaddy of them all! The 100th Rose Bowl. Number 4 Michigan State vs. Number 5 Stanford. Who are you guys taking in this game and why? I like Stanford so I wouldn't mind to see them win. I do think the perception of the Big Ten is somewhat important, but I also don't think the Big Ten being that great matters a whole lot. I'm cheering for neither team though. I am just hoping for a good quality game.

The line favors Stanford by 5.5 points. Michigan State has the best defense in the country. Stanford has one of the best ground and pound teams in the country.

F/+ Projection: Stanford 20, Michigan State 11
Win Probability: Stanford 73%

  Michigan St Stanford
Actual Score 0 0
Most Likely 13 17
Median 13 17
Mean 14.63 19.37
Win Probability 36% 64%

I am indifferent. MSU got to the rose bowl so if they win they deserve it and it will help conference perception since no big ten team has won since wisconsin in 1999. It's very sparty like for us to all take any joy out of their loss.

said Mark Dantonio has not gotten the credit he deserves for the outstanding coaching job he has done at the "University of Michigan State"

Staee's unis are butt ugly. (Lou did not say that).

I live on the West coast and watch Stanford almost every week, I could give a shit about Sparty and don't watch them unless they are playing Michigan.

Included in my thought on how Stanford plays, I include how they handle themselves on and off the field. A bunch of smart, physical, tough football players.

To lose or get crushed. Do we as Michigan fans need another example of how bad we are? Does the best B1G team losing really help us in any way?

I, for one, will feel better about the humiliation that occurred in EL if they win today. At least then there is a big reason why UM was beaten so horribly.

You must not live in Michigan and deal with these annoying, johnny-come-lately assholes they have for "fans". The same ones who magically disappeared when Michigan beat them in, oh, just about every sport last year. But when their teams start winning, that is when the flags and shirts come out.

They would NEVER want Michigan to even win a game, much less a Rose Bowl. Why should I throw them a bone? Fuck them and they horse they rode in on.

That same mentality goes for everyone else in the B1G. The only team in the B1G I want to see win is Michigan.

Their fanbase fluctuates weekly by the number of wins.  It is a shame really because the kids have played their @sses of this year and is a penalty or two away from playing in the NCG.

No one cares about msu.  They cant fill a 75K stadium for a game fergodssakes.  The fanbase is the biggest band-wagon fans of them all.  And they talk about "Walmart Wolverines"?  Hell we have nothing on their Walmart sparties.

But I assure you there are plenty of Spartans around here.

I get your point, but does it really make you feel better that your are saying the same dumb shit they do about UM's fans?

As a Michigan Fan, wouldn't the better thing to do be rise above their mouth breather type bs, rather than lower yourself to it?

I know your answer before you type it from seeing your posts around here, so no need to respond, I just wanted to offer something to think about.

I lived in East Lansing for many years--so yea I've been around "them".  The behavior we dislike in MSU fans is IMHO exaggerated and, as you correctly point out, precisely like many here behave.  The good part of Michigan's arrogance was always our relative indifference to MSU.  Now we are just (about) as obsessed.  Besides, I have family and friends who are MSU grads.  I kinda like them.

Fuck state. Them winning only hurts Michigan more in recruiting.

Hope their fans party it up because it's going to be another quarter century until they make it there again.

Agreed. I hope they lose by 50. What is one game going to do for the big ten's perception. It's already shot. They would never root for us and we would never root for the Buckeyes so why should we root for MSU.

Until they beat SEC teams that are worth a lick, the perception won't change.

The B1G has been horrible, again, in bowl season. One victory coming today with nebraska over an UGA team who was without their starting QB.

Look on the bright side, at least the B1G has some exciting new additions like Rutgers and Maryland who......ooh ouch nevermind. But hey, Rutgers brings that NY TV market so there's that.
