Completely and Utterly OT: New Ring Discovered Around Saturn

Submitted by Seth9 on

After experiencing two heartbreaking losses by my favorite teams (Michigan Football and Detroit Tigers), I've decided that sports are merely a tool by a sadistic overlord designed to torture me over long periods of time. As such, I've decided to spend the morning after the Tigers blew opportunity after opportunity after opportunity to win the division to talk about something completely unrelated to sports.

Scientists have discovered that Saturn has a hitherto undiscovered massive ring around the planet.

In doing so, one researcher provided perhaps the best science-related quote of all time:
"This new ring provided convincing evidence of that relationship."

Saturn is my favorite planet, and this does somewhat ease the pain of losing Pluto to "Big floating rock" downgrade status from that of being one of our family of planets.

And isn't Saturn up to like 78 moons or something? Honeslty, that planet is full of mysteries! Go Saturn! Next thing you know, we'll find out much of the surface is covered by beer and Beyonce lookalikes!

How could there be a massive ring around the planet that remained undiscovered even when Voyager 2 flew by? Weird but it just goes to show you how our perception of our universe is constantly changing in big ways.

It was just one of our MNC rings on it's way to Earth - current projections are for it making impact in January of 2012 (almost wrote 2011 but I'll try and temper my enthusiasm just a little bit ;)
