OT: Detroit Tigers 10/6; 5pm

Submitted by MGoBlue22 on
As most of you are aware, it's come down to a one game playoff against the Twins. Rick Porcello (14-9) is going up against Scott Baker (15-9). I have to believe that Leyland will have the boys fired up to play, but I'd feel more confident if the game wasn't being played inside the Metrodome. Any predictions on the score? My guess is 7-1 Tigers, with Cabrera going 3 for 4. EDIT: Does anyone else think it was dumb of MLB to schedule the game at 5pm? I understand the impending travel schedule of the winner, but I'm going to miss the first few innings due to work.

...I have enough time to get drunk if they end up blowing it and still make it to work tomorrow. And Cabrera will have even more time than I do

Just think if you were a Twins fan, that game starts at 4pm for them.

Tigs better come out swinging and not look back. No more tomorrows. We need at least 10 runs in this game, probably more. If they act like human ceiling fans at the plate, we're in deep trouble. . . . .Porcello, what a thrill for that kid, eh? Go Blue

I was unaware that people still viewed the board in such a way that a post could not simply be bumped back to the front page by posting in it. I use either the MGoBoard link at the top or the Recent Posts link on the side and the post with the most recent reply ends up at the top. Are people still viewing the board just by looking at the side bars on the main page?

Board Advice (Not directed at SgtWolverine): Make two Bookmarks, you can even put it in the browser toolbar, one for MGoBlog and one for MGoBoard/Recent Posts. It will change your life! It gives you a list of 25 of the most recently posted in topics rather than the 10 most recent OPs that you get in the sidebar.

5 pm is even worse for those of us on the west coast. Does anyone know where I could watch a live stream of the game? I'm a teacher in Arizona and for the last 30 minutes of school we will be watching the Tigers game if I can manage to find the game online.

The dome has been so tough to play at, but at least the new stadium isn't open yet as the weather today in Minne is 46 with a 1/2" of rain expected. Does anyone else think that having an outdoor stadium in Minneapolis starting next year is a bonehead move?

I get irked when games have to be rescheduled because the home team doesn't have priority in its stadium. This game should have been yesterday, just like Michigan's game at Minnesota a few years back should have been on Saturday instead of Friday. If a home team doesn't have a home stadium, it's not the visitors' fault.

I have tix to Game 3 of the ALDS, should the Tigers be in it! I really want them to win, obviously. Unfortunately, I don't think they have an iceberg's chance in hell. Porcello will pitch admirably under the circumstances, but Leland will pull him after 5 innnings, with the score close. Miner will go in and give up big hits, followed by Lyon. It'll be too much for the Tigers to come back in the 8th or 9th. Twins win, 9-5. (God, I hope I'm wrong about this.)

Probably have to go with Raburn in left, Maggs in right, and Guillen at DH, right? Only other thing I'd consider is Raburn at 3rd and Huff for DH with Carlos in left (because Inge is just not doing it in my opinion), but I don't think that would happen. I see a big PH situation for Avila too today.

Agree with everything except moving Raburn to 3B and playing Huff. I think we're better off with Carlos not playing the OF and you just can't count on Huff to hit. Raburn's definitely earned his spot. And yes, I hope we see Avila PH, the sooner the better, I still wish they'd given him more playing time in games where we needed runs.

The tigers never play well in the metrodome ... I just have a feeling it's going to come down to some fluky turf bounce or a ball getting lost in the dome. At least this is the last game they'll ever have to play there.

Baker v. Tigers this year: 20 IP (4GS), 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA and .333 Avg against (although his last start v. Tigers a few days ago, he gave up no runs on that shitty Thursday game in 5IP). Porcello v. Twins this year: 23.1 IP (4GS), 1-2 with a 3.09 ERA and .299 Avg against (last start v. Twins he gave up 1 run in 6 1/3, and start before that he gave up 3 runs in 6...Tigers screwed him with 2 runs of O in the last, and 0 runs in the first). I'm liking our chances in this matchup. I predict starters will leave with Tigers up 5-3 and the bullpen will hold on for a 6-4 win.

All it is is one game. The Tigers can do it even if the odds are against them. Also Everett does a good jo when he's sacrificing bunts but I'd rather see Santiago in there. I'm more confident in his bat and I think his D is comparable to Everett's. Either way I have to DVR the game cuz work is cock blocking and I wont be able to see any of it! Fuck.

I'm proud of these boys this year. They finished in last place in 2008 and now we're in a 1 game, winner-take-all, Central Division Championship showdown. This sure as hell beats what I went through as a baseball fan in my teens.
