Gus Malzahn Named AP Coach Of The Year
Malzahn received 33 votes from The Associated Press Top 25 poll voters to beat out Duke's David Cutcliffe. Cutcliffe received 17 votes after leading the Blue Devils (10-3) to their first 10-win season. Florida State's Jimbo Fisher and Michigan State's Mark Dantonio each received three votes.
Malzahn is the second Auburn coach to win the award since it began in 1998, joining Tommy Tuberville (2004), and he's the second coach to win it in his first season with a new team. Ralph Friedgen was AP coach of the year in 2001, his first season with Maryland.

Without a doubt the best choice. What he did this season was remarkable. And to think this guy was a high school coach less than a decade ago.

Definitely deserved it. Auburn was 3-9 last year and 0-8 in the SEC. To be in the MNC a year removed from that is a phenomenal accomplishment.

A great accomplishment. Will be interesting to see how his team handles FSU, but right now he looks like another steal for the SEC.

David Cutcliffe got robbed. What he has done at Duke is nothing short of incredible.

definitely deserved to be in the conversation as well. What he has done with that program is remarkable, but yeah...I think Malzahn was the best choice.

Gus Malzahn took a seemingly forlorn 3-9 Auburn which I believe did not win at all in the conference in 2012 to 12-1 and champions of both the SEC and what is its tougher division. I would say it is a well-deserved nod. That made for a great story throughout the year. Malzahn said regarding it:
"It's very humbling. Any time you get awards like this, it's a team thing, as far as our staff and our players. It's been fun to be a part of this year."

Cutcliffe should get it. Yeah Malzahn turned Auburn around, but they were bad last year because of the coaching, not because of talent. They should not have been so awful a season ago.

The best way to look good as a coach is to follow a strong recruiter but weak coach. Having said that, there's still no reason Malzahn should not have won. There are going to be at least two or three coaches every year deserving of the award.

I think Gary Pinkel should been in the discussion as well. Mizzou and Auburn were similar last season, but Auburn was a hair worse and went one game farther than Mizzou did this season, so kudos to him.

Yeah, I must admit it's odd not to see Pinkel. Especially after Mauk had to come in later in the year. They had a great season.
