I don't think we have much of a chance (I think he'll end up at one of the Florida schools, probably FSU), but I'm glad he's at least interested. Anything can happen if he comes to campus...

is getting these kids to visit. the staff (including ricardo miller) is doing an excellent job getting them on campus and letting the game day experience take care of the rest.

He's going to Florida State. There's a lot of kids that will say they have interest, and might come up for a visit. It doesn't mean we're going to get them. Jones is one, Josh Shaw is another, and John Fulton is a kid that has "interest". I don't think we'll end up getting any of these kids.

Way to make their decision for them! Seriously... if a kid says he has interest, he probably is at least a little interested. That doesn't mean he's chomping at the bit, or even likely, but still. I know you're very much in the know, but why assume the kids are lying?

Maybe you took what I wrote the wrong way, or I miscommunicated. I never said any of them were lying. There are kids that have interest in a lot of schools, but know where they really want to go. Just because they know where they're going doesn't mean they don't have some interest in other programs. That's why you see kids list a top 3, or top 5. You're right, he probably does have a little interest, but he has a lot of interest in FSU, and almost already committed there. Again, I'm not saying anyone's lying, I just don't think they'll choose us. A lot of people get excited about a kid saying he's interested, which is fine, I'm just saying don't get your hopes up.

Didn't Will Campbell do something along these lines? He sort of "de-committed", went on some visits and then signed with Michigan? Put yourself in the shoes of these kids. Most of them may never get to travel or have never traveled a great deal, so why not visit? They lose very little by going on a visit.

It isn't making their decision for them, it's just being realistic. How many guys who we consider locks / commits end up taking other visits dispite being pretty solid with M? I think Michigan should go after every top player who has interest and getting official visits is a great first step, but I know we won't land all of them.

Neither do I, but that's no reason to write them off. Steals happen all the time. I feel like a more appropriate response would be, "Looks like he's coming for a visit. Great! It probably won't change anything, since he's very strongly for X school, but I'll wait and see what he says in the next few weeks and those after the visit.

but if they come up for a visit at least there is some chance. If they don't come at all then there is no chance. I know that FSU has been at or near the top for the kid but, that team and situation is a mess. They are already experiencing some defections and who knows...? I have to believe that Furman and Olaniyan are the top uncommitted prospects for us at LBs at this point.

Florida State being a mess is a little bit of a different situation. I've talked to kids that like FSU, and the fact that Jimbo Fisher is waiting to take over helps them. They know who the coach is going to be, they're already comfortable with him, and they know there won't be too much change. It's the same thing with Penn State. Jay Paterno is very involved with the process and coaching, so kids know there won't be anything to worry about once those coaches leave.

relax friends and countrymen. Tom is right. these kids with "interest" (anyone remember big will campbells recruitment?) are most likely kids who want to see some country and places they can't afford to go on their own. so what better way to see some new places thatn have top colleges pay for "official" visits.

If I knew where I wanted to go but had offers from across the country, I would still probably go visit USC or Florida or Texas. It's a good chance to travel, a good chance to meet people, a good chance to hang out with college girls . . . and a good chance to have great seats/access for awesome football games! I don't see what the problem is.

Anything can happen. Teenagers can be pretty fickle....if he has a tremendous visit/weekend here whose to say he won't seriously consider coming? You never know...
