OT: Pam Ward/BTN Disease Is Spreading

Submitted by Njia on

What the hell is going on with the MNF guys? I just heard Ron Jaworski say, "Minnesota is just strokin' it down the field."

Uhhh .... Let me pause a moment while I channel some Miyamoto Musashi and let that image pass quickly from my mind. Anyone got some Haldol or Reglan handy? I'm not sure dinner's gonna stay settled.

I think Pam Ward is spreading Streptococcus Stupidae around ESPN. That, or the MNF crew is watching too many games on BTN.

Meanwhile, Gruden is going his best Frank Caliendo impersonation. He really can't say enough about the unbelievable awesomeness of Brett Favre (hallowed be his name). Apparently, #4 is a good player. Ask him, (or don't) he'll tell you. Again, and again, and again.

Yeesh. Maybe I can find a rerun of This Old House.

*EDIT* And I just heard Gruden say, "When a team is backed up to the goal line Jared Allen sniffs the quarterback." Aw, geez.

Jaws has always been like that. This isn't new.

And This Old House is one of the better shows on tv.

I thought Gruden did well. Plus, tonight really was all about Brett Favre. Its the heated Vikings vs Packers rivalry, where Favre plays his old team, it had so many story lines.

Believe me, after living in Wisconsin for a number of years, this rivalry is almost as big as the Michigan/OSU rivalry to us. Most people in Wisconsin care more about the Packers than they do the Badgers, and they absolutely hate the Vikings.

Anyways, I thought Gruden did good job, Jaws is Jaws, and Tirico was his usual self (being a good commentator and play by play announcer).

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

It's been a long time. Good movie. Kurt Russell always adds a bit of authentic swagger to a tough guy, (watch Death Proof sometime).

Kurt Russell in BTILC was good. Tom Selleck in High Road to China was not, (I know people who have confused the two). Most memorable WTF? line: "The oxen are slow, but the earth is patient."

There are a small number of movies that I'll always stop channel surfing to watch when I come across them. Escape from New York is at or near the very top of that list. Snake Plissken is an all-time great low hero.

Other members of that list: Sergio Leoni's Man With No Name / Dollars trilogy, featuring the inestimable Clint Eastwood; Evil Dead and its progeny, featuring b-movie legend, Michigan native and WMU grad Bruce Campbell (just about any Bruce Campbell flick, for that matter), and pretty much any Hitchcock movie.

The thing with Jaws and Gruden is that they may say some strange things once in a while. They are paid to talk and analyze and are pretty damn good at it.

On the other hand, BTN and Pam Ward are not very good at the analysis. What also annoys me about Pam Ward and BTN is mispronouncing or getting the players name incorrectly all together.

I will start questioning Jaws and Gruden when they start saying, "giving him the skittles" or "good foot athlete"
