OT: Syracuse blog raising money to send underprivileged kids to Texas Bowl

Submitted by sarto1g on

This is fantastic.  In the spirit of bowl execs making big money from empty stadiums, one Syracuse blog had the idea of sending local youth groups to the Texas bowl since no Syracuse fans will be there.  Donations cover ticket and food vouchers for the kids.  The Texas Bowl has even gotten involved by dropping the cost of the tickets from $50 to $20.

If colleges can offer Middle Schoolers scholarships - couldn't this be considered a recruiting violation?  It would be so NCAA to frown on something like this.

All kidding aside - class act.

This is pretty damn awesome. As somebody who works with underprivileged inner city kids, this will probably be an experience of a lifetime for those kids. Seems like this would be something that the Little Caesars bowl  could make happen.

It won't matter in the slightest to those kids who's playing.  Most of them will never forget it.

You have to be pretty spolied and jaded to make that comment - not every kid has an HD TV and tickets to his favorite team's home games.

It's not a choice between this and buying clothes - these tickets are already out there and they have to do something with them.  Why not give a kid a thrill?

Raising money for a cause is a real great idea. This is indeed a good news to underprivileged children to be given a chance to be a part in Texas Bowl. The organizers of this Syracuse blog raising campaign showed an act of kindness. I am sure this will be appreciated by these kids.
