Lewan named 2nd team AP All-American

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Lewan snubbed again from the first team.

He had an outstanding individual year. What's hurting him is perception. Most writers don't break down film and watch Lewan and every play.

Lewan has been named a first team All-American by Sporting News and a second team by USA Today, the AP and WCFF.

You need at least three of the 3 the 6 organizations to select you as a 1st team All-American to earn the consensus All-American designation. There are only two chances left for Lewan to become the 79th consensus All-American in program history--The FWAA & AFCA.

I find it funny that consensus is 3 out of 6.

But it's bullshit if he's not 1st team. I hope nfl teams actually watch the tape and he doesn't go later than he would have last year.

Taylor Lewan really has had a decorated career at Michigan and it is a shame that he didn't make the first team this year. We've been very lucky in the recent past with players who have worn the number 77, of course, and I believe that Lewan has added yet another great story to that number.

I have to say that I thought Taylor Lewan took a slight step backward this year. I'm really not surprised that he's Second Team. I mean, I watched Michigan football a lot this year, and I didn't watch anybody else nearly as much, so I don't know who deserves to be ahead of him. Maybe nobody. But I just didn't think Lewan was up to par with his 2012 season.

Some early mock drafts don't have him in the
top 10.

After he excells at the combines, GM's will say "oh yeah, that's why he was a too 5 pick last year". They will watch film of him against Clowney and everyone he manhandled this year. He'll be drafted higher than most of the 1st Team A A.

I actually saw a mock draft the other day that didn't even have Lewan in the first round. I wish I could find it now. It has to be an error of omission because there is simply no way that happens.

Happy to see him getting accolades though. With the terrible year the O-Line had, it would have been easy for the different organizations to simply leave him off and explain it away. He may not have had as good a year as 2012, but he was still a cut above most and was a good ambassador for the team. I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm going to miss him.

You're definitely right that there are some very deserving candidates other than Lewan. Word is that Scherff is a better prospect than either Bryan Bulago or Reilly Reiff were coming out of Iowa. Mewhort is solid as well, as much as I hate to admit it. I've read a few pieces knocking Kouandjio as being overrated or lacking skill. Matthews is damn good and benefits from playing on a team that doesn't ask him to run block in the power run game as much. Also, he get's the Bruce Matthews nostalgia points.
