Predictions for MBB vs. Arizona
I'm pretty surprised this hadn't been posted yet so I figured I would create some morning discussion.
I think we see an in-shape Mitch M-F'in McGary dominate this game and do what he did last year in the NCAA tourney. I'm expecteding 24 points from him to go with 12 boards and 3 steals. Stauskas is close behind him with 20 pts including 3-5 from behind the arc.
Michigan pulls the upset at home against the #1 team in college basketball.
Michigan 65 - Arizona 59

RESPECT KENPOM
December 14th, 2013 at 10:14 AM ^
I'd like to respect Kenpom but I hate really close games that come down to the final shot. I become way too nervous so I'd like to think they win by a close but not too close margin.

The section where I predict the exact same thing Kenpom does.
Always wanted to say that.
Michigan by 1.
December 14th, 2013 at 10:14 AM ^
Michigan 74
Zona -63
Irvin comes off the bench hot from behind the arc. Hopefully GRIII does SOMETHING today.

I'm pretty sure it's a typo, but it made me LOL.

Didn't think that game really mattered much.
I think we win this game, escape in Brooklyn vs. Stanford and run off straight wins until we visit EL.

December 14th, 2013 at 10:46 AM ^
Every time I watch, I watch "The Shot" 3-4 times, then I go back a replay the shot and watch every Michigan player on the court once, then the coaches, then the bench a couple times.
Anyone know what Eso is up to these days? I'd love to hear his thoughts were after the shot. The team is in the huddle and he seems to be a little misty standing all by himself well outside of the huddle.
Sorry for a minor thread hijack...but when you watch that. You can't help but share.

As amazing as it was real time, it seems even more amazing now. I know we all think we know how great Trey was but time really begins underline, bold and highlight him as a once in a generation type player.

Here are TeamRankings' matchup stats to aid discussion. As you'll note, they are reasonably similar, so hopefully we're looking at a competitive game that results in a win for the good guys.

The offensive rebounding % stat is pretty crazy. I read Ace's preview and his comment about "put backs" but seeing side by side with ours really makes it jump out. McGary big game it is.
December 14th, 2013 at 10:40 AM ^
I'm not very confident about this game, especially given the size of Arizona's front court. Arizona 74- Michgan 68.
December 14th, 2013 at 10:49 AM ^
Florida St. was big and we won. We went up against Jeff Withey last year and McGary destroyed him.
December 14th, 2013 at 10:45 AM ^
AZ wins.

YOU ALL DARE TO DOUBT KENPOM?
December 14th, 2013 at 10:51 AM ^
IMO, I don't think there should be any court rushing today. We just went to the title game and were preseason #8 in the country.

Vegas has Michigan as a 2.5 favorite. West Coast team playing at 9am Central? I predict Michigan up 10-12 at halftime, AZ rallies late, but M pulls out the win. 71-68.

The top of the Pac-12 is pretty light on good squads. According to KenPom the top 5 Pac-12 teams -
6 Arizona
24 Oregon
27 UCLA
35 Colorado
47 Arizona St.
Compare that to the Big 10 -
2 Ohio State
9 Wisconsin
11 Michigan St.
15 Iowa
20 Michigan
34 Indiana
The top 4 Big 10 squads are ranked higher than Arizona's strongest competetor. It will be interesting to see how the Pac-12 looks after Arizona loses today. Caveat: it is still pretty early in the season, but still...

75-73 Michigan, so long as they feed Mitch and don't go cold from Stauskas Land.

Prediction: I will want to punch Dave Brandon in the face more often than the DJ plays a good song.
December 14th, 2013 at 11:57 AM ^
Arizona will walk into Crisler with their heads held high. They will take a big lead early. But this version of Michigan will finally "get it" in the second half and win by 10 as Arizona players begin to wonder why this team they were supposed to beat is playing so well.
Arizona may walk in confident, but they will leave disappointed.
December 14th, 2013 at 12:01 PM ^
like "oh man, the best team in the country is here" but we were top 5 all year last year and we got beat and in the tournament we took down #3 KU, #14 Florida, #16 Syracuse. We're pretty great at home and this is a winnable game. I think even if we lose, it'll be by a hair
Strange to feel so reasonably confident against the #1 team
December 14th, 2013 at 12:06 PM ^
Oh how the times have changed, right?
December 14th, 2013 at 12:06 PM ^
Hope Crisler brings the noise today.
78-75 good guys

We're playing our best game of the season right now bar none.
