OT - Welcome back Friday Posbang! (The Army-Navy Edition)

Submitted by mgobaran on

The Point system is back. So let's rekindle our Friday tradition of a posbang. We all deserve this one, after a long work week, and an even longer football season.

For the first time since August 31, 2013, the state of Michigan has no football over the weekend. So what are your plans? Is it Wife Season until bowl games start up? Is it your weekend to get out there and shop for Christmas?

I'll start it off.
My weekend will be filled with beer. I expect a heavy amount of snow shoveling. At least early Saturday. Then I will tune into the annual Army Navy game.

Looks like the line is at Navy -12.5 right now. IMO Army covers that. I haven't watched the two teams at all this season, but it is always a great game. The heart these guys play with is amazing. This was one of the most touching things I have ever witnessed from sports.

My NCAA dynasties always start off at Army, so maybe I am biased, but GO BLACK KNIGHTS! Either way, this game spotlights the men and women who serve our country. And it's never a bad day to let them know we appreciate everything they do. So MGoCommunity members who are members of our Military, thank you.

Couple Notes:
Navy has won 11 straight football games
Army is 3-8 on the season
Navy is 7-4  on the season
Game is on CBS, 3:00pm EST

Who do you got?

Weekend Plans?

Too bad the game can't include enlisted.  If so, then Army mops up Navy (Full disclosure:  I may or may not be a retired Senior NCO....okay, I am <allow for bias>).  In all seriousness I played intramural throughout my military career and was always impressed with some of the football talent I played with.  There were loads of former NCAA scholarship guys that didn't pan out.

I can attest (10 years of Joint Service) that Navy officers are much more difficult to work with than Army officers.

Go Army!!

I agree with including enlisteds, but the outcome will be quite different if the Marines are on the Navy team.  I also played intramural football and was always impressed with some of the bruises I received from the Marines I played with.

Hold up. One cannot simply erase a Bed, Bath, and Beyond by appending a Home Depot to the front of that statement.  I'm assuming you will be downing a six pack of Shiner Bock and doing some masonry work to wash away the BBB visit.  That is the correct penance.

Since this is a POSBANG.  Hooray for Home Depot (a grown man's toy store)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if this was worthy of a thread, but since there are usually some pretty interesting beers in all of the "What are you drinking?" threads, it would be pretty cool if we had a beer trade or something?

I am neutral in this game (maybe).  I lean Air Force wrt the services, so unless this outcome involves them I will be rooting for a solid game.  Also, pre-Beat Arizona day!

I've got friends and relatives have have served in all branches...but one of my bosses is actually a West Point grad, and I would REALLY like to see the Cadets get this thing done tomorrow for his sake if not their own.

If you ever get a chance to attend a game featuring a service academy team, DO IT.  I was a teenager when I saw Army come from behind to beat Illinois in the Peach Bowl in the old Atlanta Fulton County stadium during a steady, cold rain in 1985.  Former Bo assistant (and emergency Rose Bowl coach) Jim Young coached for Army then.  It was a great game, too...Army won 31-29 when Jack Trudeau (who passed for 400 yards that day) attempted a 2-point conversion late that was broken up.  Army ran the option back then because of course they did and QB Rob Healy was their leading rusher and game MVP.

But the Corps is such a spectacle in person, and of course you've got the alums all over the place (identifiable by armbands noting their graduation year) and something about it just makes you feel grateful.

Next to The Game, this is my favorite game of the year to watch. The pageantry is amazing, the style if football is a throwback and good for football geeks like me, and most importantly these are the guys who will fight to keep us safe and lead others to keep us free. What a day. Go Army, Beat Navy and bring the rivalry back to respectable again.

Both my father and father in-law are Army vets.  Doubt they win, but will be rooting.  Love this game, because in the end, it really doesn't matter who wins, it's just great seeing them out there.

While written from Navy's point of view this is an objective look the deep structural issues all of the academies face in football and explains why the Middies are currently the dominant program and will likely stay that way in the near future:
