Video: Alex Kile's GW SO Goal over #4 Ferris State

Submitted by gwkrlghl on

I know there's already two hockey topics on the front page but I think this one is worthy of its own since most are unlikely to get sifting through those threads for this video. (And we're in a dead period anyway)

Alex got the game-winning shootout goal in the 7th round last night to beat #4 Ferris State and this video has been making the rounds on hockey blogs (I've seen it shown up in a few places already). People have called it "Datsyukian". Watch for yourself below:

I hope that was sarcasm.

1) That puck was no more than one inch over the line for less than 1 second.

2) There was some contact there.

He's well within reason to protest in the heat of the moment.

Regardless, great, great goal, and nearly a phenominal leg save.

* Edit -- after rewatching, actually very little if any contact.  Really amazing body balance.

Even though the goal doesn't count for points or standing per the NCAA, there is nothing stopping it from being awesome. We at least have this highlight, and it was nice to look at. What was really cool in a way is that even though this shootout doesn't officially matter (I don't understand the NCAA sometimes - looked like a win to me) , both teams seemed to relish every moment of it from what I could see on TV.

I was at the game and was watching from the reverse angle of the TV camera so the goalie wasn't blocking our view.  It looked close but it also clearly looked like a goal.  I was surprised the review took so long.
