Maximum Chaos

Submitted by ProfMurdoc on

Is there a way to root for maximuim CHAOS today without rooting for things that would benefit Alabama specifically, and an SEC MNC in general?

What do I want to be hoping for, besides meteors?

I agree, if both FSU and OSU lose, we will see an all SEC championship, which make it even more of a joke.  It's bad enough that college football is the only major sport without a rudimentary playoff, to have two teams from the same conference and call that a championship is laughable.  It's really a testament to great marketing that this sport is as popular as it is.

The only thing I don't want to see is Alabama backing their way into the NC game.

FSU must win and even if OSU does not, the winner of the Auburn/Mizzou game should probably get it.

I don't really care if OSU gets in or not because I think they lose no matter who they play.

Sparty wins, crushes ohio's season. Sparty gets summarily demolished in Rose Bowl game vs Stanford. Ohio has another scandal (there's always one brewing down there) and loses major players and gets smashed in a BCS game vs (insert opponent), FSU defeats any SEC team in NC game, Michigan blows out decent opponent in whatever lame bowl we go to. Nick Saban goes to Texas, Hand comes to UM. All becomes right in the universe.

yeah, but adding a scandal kind of opens the doors of possibility too far.  But yeah, Ohio scandal would be ideal.  Especially if it includes coach/player sexual relations that are consentual/legal because of age, but frowned upon b/c of the position of power of the coach.  Nobody really gets hurt, except poor Ohio fans.

Again, I'm not saying it's true, I'm just saying I read it on the internet.

I have no problem with rooting for MSU over OSU.  If they go to their first Rose Bowl in a quarter century, who cares?  Here are some of the B1G teams that have gone to the Rose Bowl since then:

Purdue, Illinois, Iowa, Penn State, Northwestern.  None of these programs "took off" because of it.

Massey is giving Florida State a 97% estimated win probability with a median projected score of 45-20. I have to say, I would be surprised if Duke scored 20 points in this game, but I would tend to agree that the chance of an upset here would be exceedingly remote. That being said, it would probably cause the ACC to implode somehow if it happened.

My initial reaction has been to consider cheering for Sparty to upset Ohio.  Then, I realized that a Sparty victory would affect Michigan a lot more than an Ohio victory would, because it would help Sparty in recruiting where Ohio pretty much buys whoever they really want anyway.  Besides, I detest Sparty and Ohio, but at least I have respect for Ohio.

So, my preference will have to be Ohio winning and getting crushed by FSU, Sparty backing into the Rose Bowl, where they are made to look utterly inept by Stanford or ASU, and every other Big Ten team winning their bowl games so the conference has a good record.

I would like to see Sparty win but can't see it happening. Something tells me it'll be a derpfest from their offense and/or special teams and Ohio wins.

  • OSU wins 3-2
  • Auburn rolls Missouri
  • FSU wins
  • Sparty drops to 15, Capital One Bowl, destroyed by LSU
  • OSU gets beat down in Pasadena
  • FSU wins by 30
  • Gardner puts up ~1,000 yards on Gergs defense

I haven't been following it all that closely (what's the point?) but I believe the current margin in the computers is something like .02, with #3 Auburn playing #5 Missouri and #2 OSU playing #10 MSU. If it comes down to the voters, Auburn rolling and OSU winning an epically ugly game just might put them on the outside.

Like I said, though, I haven't been reading any of the "experts" and I'm decidedly not an expert. It would definitely be maximum chaos, in any event.

Personally, I'd love an Iron Bowl rematch in the MNC. What I'd really want is FSU-Alabama, but that doesn't seem possible at this point.

As long as OSU doesn't win it all, then I'm okay with whatever happens.

Correct me if wrong. MSU wins and both teams have 1 loss. Sparty gets the BCS nod on tiebreaker. No chance Ohio plays for a MNC and Sparty goes to Pasadena. Ohio gets a BCS berth and Michigan goes from Gator (projected) to BWW Bowl. Sparty gets hammered. Ohio gets upset. Michigan schools Gerg. Schadenfreude abounds.

For BCS considerations, best case would be FSU beating Duke and Sparty beating OSU, then FSU beating Auburn/Mizzou in the title game and ending the SEC's reign.

HOWEVER, watching Sparty winning its second B1G title since our 9+ year drought began would add insult to injury, so I can't bring myself to root for Sparty. OSU winning a B1G title wouldn't bother me as much.

Okay guys, seriously, if OSU wins a close one, they WILL NOT drop below Auburn or Missouri no matter how big they win in Atlanta. They'll be an undefeated AQ team and, even if voters think Auburn or Missouri is better, they won't put them over an undefeated OSU. Your guys' dream scenario of OSU barely winning, getting jumped and going to the rose bowl with MSU left out of the BCS is NOT going to happen. Plain and simple. You guys have to pick: OSU in the championship game, or MSU in the rose bowl and OSU in another BCS bowl. Yes, it's a lose-lose, but that's how it is. Stop dreaming.

Nope! I'll never stop dreaming! EVAR!

I know it's not likely, which is why I hope Sparty wins today. I can handle teams I hate being in BCS bowls. Even if they win (which is unlikely given the level of competition in BCS bowls), it won't mean much in a few years. National Championships last forever, and I don't want Ohio State to even have a chance to pull of some crazy upset.

To me, it's OSU, hands-down. We get too many of our players from the state of Ohio, and we cannot afford Meyer to lock down the state recruiting-wise like Tressel did. If Meyer wins a NC in his second year, it's going to make Hoke's recruiting job that much tougher in Ohio.

Which means I'm rooting hard for MSU to beat OSU, and given my family roots at MIzzou, I'm rooting hard for the Tigers to beat the Tigers and end up playing FSU in the NC game.

Ohio State rips MSU so badly they drop out of the Top 14 (with a few schools behind them winning just to make sure). No BCS bowl for Sparty. Then Auburn and FSU both lose, and Alabama backs into the title game. I know, I know, them winning again would suck. But Ohio State fans have been talking all kinds of shit about how they'd beat 'Bama (now that they are sure they're safe from running into them), and it would be great to see them slaughtered even if it means another Saban victory. Plus I kind of feel that the next non-'Bama champion should have to dethrone the Tide to do it, and not via some completely freak play.

Hope for a Sparty win. Keep Ohio out of the championship game. Let everything else fall wherever it may. Enjoy the day and think about how we need to be in these positions soon and not worrying about what rivals result is best of the worst for us.
