Per Good Bull Hunting, the A&M blog for SBNation, here are the most watched teams in the US. Interesting that even with out struggles, people are still tuning in.

would probably not be as large if it wasn't for the addition of Texas A&M, but dang...lots of traditional SEC teams in that top 10.

they have also had a lot of nationally broadcasted ranked matchups which draw in more views, if it was alabama vs a&m going up against penn state northwestern or some other similar match up most people are gonna watch the big nationally televised matchup unless their team is playing then

I think it is more a factor of the AVAILABLE games for people to watch NOT on a private Cable Network (looking at you BTN). Games are more accessible, and if they are anything like me - most people will watch any and all available football....and with more games available - the SEC gets watched more.

Well we played quite a few games on the Big Ten Network, and I dunno, I guess I just don't think 5 million people were watching us play on BTN.

But considering none of the SEC's games are on channels like BTN, and Pac-12 and Longhorn Networks, these seem very much skewed towards favoring the SEC. Of course ESPN games are going to have more viewers than the more regional, less well-known sports networks.

The only Big Ten team to miss the top 50 was Indiana, if I read this right, which I could have probably guessed. The Big Ten teams in the top 25 in addition to Michigan and Ohio State are Nebraska, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Penn State and Michigan State.
The conference ratings have appeared on various sites for a few years and I am pretty sure that they've been fairly consistent with the SEC and Big Ten having significantly higher ratings than every other conference, but then it seems like these two conferences find their way onto ESPN and ABC most often. It would be interesting perhaps to break down conference versus network and time slot perhaps.

I have heard this before and wonder how this is the case when there are much larger schools? (Texas, Ohio State, etc.) Is it because we graduate more or is it the grad programs in addition to undergraduate alums? Just curious.

Wow. This is what happened during a 7-5 season. Just imagine the situation if / when we are consistently in the top 5 again. Everybody everywhere would be extremely happy, well except for the Buckeye and Sparty fans.

Who thought it was going to end this year? This year we had three marque home games and were projected by many to contend for the B1G title.
Next year is the year I have heard/read that attendence might take a hit due to the crapola home schedule and growing fan disatisfaction with our mediocre record over the past several years.

I remember specifically in the "What are you expecting?" thread for the Indiana game (right after the Penn State game) there was at least one pessimist predicting a sub 100k showing. Didn't come close to happening, of course.

Could it also be that people like to watch UM lose? I know the only reason I watch Buckeye/Sparty games is to hopefully watch them lose.
Not sure what to do Saturday night? Its like telling someone they have to pick a sister to kiss, which one you going to choose?

This is a perfect example of why, even with a few good years, Sparty will always be "little brother." A crappy Michigan team is more relevant than one of Sparty's best teams in the last forty years.

Unfortunately, it's also a sign of creeping little brother syndrome in our own fanbase that we find reasons to take shots at Sparty in a thread that has nothing to do with Sparty.

Let's remember though that those numbers only included 7 rated games for Michigan... meaning a lot of our crappy OOC/B1G matchups aren't included... whereas the other top teams have 10-11 rated games. For example, Texas A&M's average is skewed by the fact that less than a million watched their shitty game against SMU.

This. If Michigan's crappy BTN games are on here, the average drops a ton. I wonder if someone can find the ratings for those BTN games and recalculate the average.

This is one of the big reasons ESPN takes so much time and effort to crap on the Big Ten. The BTN is a competitor that the worldwide leader in sh*tty sports coverage loves to hurt.
