Mgoblog (Brian) Twitter rant

Looks like bowling didn't go too well

mgoblog @mgoblog 26m

I'm just done with people who are mad at me for reacting how I do to Michigan football. If you don't like it, I don't care

mgoblog @mgoblog 26m

For years I let people talk shit to me because I felt some sort of duty to them because they'd been around a while.

mgoblog @mgoblog 25m

That was a mistake. If you are surprised that I am emotional and moody at this point you are too stupid to care about.

mgoblog @mgoblog 25m

I have taken epic tons of shit for being in a bad mental spot this year; and somehow I managed to feel bad about that.

mgoblog @mgoblog 24m

No more. I'm done taking shit from internet anons because I'm not happy about losing to OSU 9 of 10 years.

mgoblog @mgoblog 24m

I don't owe you a damn thing. Read it or don't.

mgoblog @mgoblog 3m

most people are not reacting like that, but shitheads are louder. this is going to have an effect on MGoBlog.

mgoblog @mgoblog 2m

Your point total is irrelevant to my decisions. If you're making our lives shitty, you're gone

mgoblog @mgoblog 2m

This whole season has been 50% nightmare team, 50% nightmare community. I can fix half of that.

Since 2003 ... UM has beaten O$U 1 time .. against their worst team in over 50 years.

If we don't peel off back to back year wins soon then I will question the ability of UM to pull kids like Funchess, Jake Ryan, Des Morgan ... Classic kids D Howard, C Woodson, Ron Kramer, etc... From Ohio.

Brian's passion for MGoBlog means that he hasn't been able to separate the personal attackks from the site.

Many entrepreneurs can't separate themselves from their business. MGoBlog is a business. I hope Brian can find a way to separate personal from business.

This team has got me now to almost the same point I am at with the Lions, I'll believe it when I see it.  I think the is a problem at U of M that it pervasive though the whole program.  I remember something Lloyd Carr said in the locker room after MIchigan had beaten Washington State in the 1998 Rose Bowl.  It was something to the effect of you will go down as the all time great MIchigan team or something to that effect.  It really irked me because when he said it I realized that he wasn't mentally planning to be back there, to be at the top again.  If you are not mentally planning to be there, it's highly unlikely that you will.

I think that is a problem through out the whole program.  If you listen to what they say, they are content just being good.  They chose faithfulness to a certain philosophy rather than doing exactly what it takes to win and taking what the defense gives you.  They are perfectly content, happy, being 9-3 or 10-2, and estatic if they are occassionally any better.

People show up 100,000 plus and by every piece of junk the University can think of to put there Block M on, just like William Clay Ford is happy as long as his football team is profitable.  It's the same think in Ann Arbor only fans in Ann Arbor are used to a little better record than the Lions usually have.

Lets see if Hoke actually makes the change he should with the offensive coordinators and more importantly philosophy.  If he comes back with the same next year, don't expect the results to be any different.  Michigan has been one of the most underachieving programs for it's resources in the last at least two decades.  Thise kind of trends do not reverse themselves easily.

What has MIchigan done to really break it.  They went out and got someone from the Carr era who was a part of that sustained mediorcrity.  Someone who wants to go back to a tired concept which has kept us just above average for decades.

Take a look at what OSU did when it was time to make a coaching change, they went out and got the best coach available, a top of the line proven winner.  Look what they have done since, undefeated in two years. They don't live in the past.

We get someone who says "this is Michigan for God's sakes" and we feel all warm and fuzzy.

I'll believe it when I see it out of this bunch. If the fans, the ones who spend the money, ttruly start demanding more we will get it, becasue this is a business and if the bottom line is effected than changes will be made.

We follow a minor league football team.  It's a minor league team that's made to go to class and behave like students, and they may not get paid exactly like say Toledo Mud Hens, but in terms of the money generated for it's owners, the University, it's a minor league none the less.  And kids that come here for the most part, want to, expect to, hope to, play professional football.

So we're faulting Lloyd Carr for telling a national championship team that they, "have left a wonderful legacy for every team that comes after [them]. [They] just won the National Championship."

Your thoughts on the program could be 100% right, but if Lloyd's quote bothers you, you are just looking for things to bother you. What should he have said?

Points are good but
1. OSU did not really change coaching philosophy with Meyer. That change came when they exchanged Cooper for Cheaty McCheater. They just plugged Meyer (who, no doubt, is a good coach) into the machine that was already well-oiled
2. You are right about the UM minor league status for the players. However, for the owners - the University, it is major league status and $$$ all the way. I am from Ohio ( but UM grad- thank goodness) and this reminds me of the Cincinnati Bengals. The owners made big bucks, were subsidized by the city, and put out a crummy product. As a business, there was no reason for the team to improve - profits were sweet. Things did not change until people stopped going to the games. A couple of non-sellout crowds would probably get Brandon of his rear end.

"and they beat our sophomore and freshman by 1 point."

If that helps make you sleep at night I guess that reality can work for you.  OSU defense is as young as UM's if not younger.  They have ROby, Shazier, and their DTs and a bunch of very young guys mixed in.  Their ends are freshman like Bosa, RS fresh, and RS sophomores, they have young guys sprinkled into their LB and secondary just like us.

I dont get how everyone thinks our defense is so young.  We trotted out Furman+ Avery (and usually have Gordon back there).  Taylor is an upperclassmen.  LBs are Morgan, JMFR, the other Gordon, and Beyer.  On the line we have Black, Washington, Ash who actually played quite a bit yesterday and Clark.  This is a "our sophomore and freshman team"?  No its a fake reality to make people feel better about themselves and the team.  Yes the backups are young but so are every team's.

On offense our "freshman and sophomores" were led by two senior tackles, a senior WR, and a RS JR QB, along with a sr RB for most of the year.  Aside from interior line the starters on our team were no different than most teams across the country in age .  The 2 deep was younger than usual, that is about it.

The difference is that their upperclassmen are better than ours, and their underclassmen are better than ours. Yes, they have young guys playing...like 5-star Noah Spence and near 5-star Joey Bosa. They're better than us. That's the bottom line. I don't know why there's any vitriol here. Pair these guys up side by side (their starters vs. our starters), and you'll see a clear delineation. They didn't want most of our guys, and we wanted most of theirs.

It's been talked about non-stop over the past several years, but the crater that is the 2010 recruiting class is weighing us down. Those guys would be seniors or redshirt juniors, but Vinopal is at Pitt, Cullen Christian is at Pitt, Demar Dorsey is probably in jail somewhere, etc. Our big stud in the secondary is Blake Countess, who's doing pretty darn well...but OSU didn't even try to get him in 2011. We also got a steal in 2010 in Ohioan Jake Ryan...whom OSU also didn't want. The talent is matriculating through the system, but we can't turn freshmen into redshirt juniors overnight.

no joke its hoke

let's see. their qb is a 3 starter, ours has started 17 games. they have a senior running back and 4 senior olinemen. we had mainly freshman rb's and 3 lineman making their 10-12 start. that right there is a giant advantage for ohio. I'm not saying I'm happy with the game but the gap isn't as big as everyone wants to think. BTW you come of as a douche with most of your post.

I've nuked two already. LSA already got at LEAST 4. And there are a number of semi-established posters who probably only haven't been banned because they're long-timers.

A house-cleaning is in order.

Don't get me wrong as I love this blog to death and would love to see a return of some civility so I can go back to posting more often, but as far as "It's coming" <-- I feel like I've heard that before... every offseason for 2 or 3 years. I feel like there are a lot of changes that need to be made to the board and I'd love to see any of them, but you'll have to excuse me for not holding my breath.

#1 this is my THIRD account not 47th.

#2 I didn't read that thread

#3 it's comical that I respond in a thread with "ut oh naughty language" to a post by Brian, defend Brian from said asshat and in the one who gets banned.

Players use it, coaches use it, Brian uses it. If I can't call someone a f'ing idiot then I must not be on the Internet.

Is that because Brian has monetized and sold his blog to advertisers. Guess what, everything he and the rest of the mods dislike about what DB has done to make tne AD more profitable is exactly what Brian has done to this blog. You guys are trying to clean it up so that advertisers continue to pay for space. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Welcome to the business world, and the fact that what made MGoBlog great will now be eliminated because you are trying to be something other than a sports blog.

I wasn't even attacking Brian...I'm someone who is completely in his corner and you totally miscronstrued what i was trying to say...I was calling out people that boo in the stadium b/c it sucks to do so for the players whether directed at the coached or not.

FWIW - I am pretty much a Brian Cook fanboy and for the most part think he does no wrong, so your spittle-flecked attack was completely at the wrong person/type of person.

And probably not "long time guy" the way anyone else would use it. Nobody you would see on the top of the points list or anything, but someone with more than a year and 800 points or so decided to use a homophobic slur.

For me at least, that's about the only thing without some wiggle room (not just sexual orientation obviously but racial, ethnic, ect.) with regards to banning someone. That and personal attacks on student-athletes, although usually I'll delete and Bolivia once for a non-brand new account.

I don't really get the militant Mod approach.   Granted, I don't know everything that has been said.

But so what if people disagree/insult Brian.  I hope he's secure enough to realize he is highly respected by many.

The whole "cleaning house" badass approach on a message board just seems petty and ridiculous.

After all, people can just create another username or mask their IP if it gets to "the next level"
