*Ohio State*
this petty nickname crap reeks of an inferiority complex, which....... oh.... yeah
November 27th, 2013 at 10:46 AM ^
you can't wait to see the OSU Band do their Script Ohio "State" on Saturday.... oh... yeah.
November 27th, 2013 at 10:49 AM ^
Right after they sing "Carmen Ohio State" and leave the "Ohio State Stadium"
November 27th, 2013 at 11:25 AM ^
And don't forget how they don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan, because they're from Ohio State.

Don't you love their trademark call-and-response chant: OH! - IO! - ST! - AT! - E!

I still don't understand thier infatuation with male deer.
November 27th, 2013 at 4:13 PM ^
Having to provide examples to justify a condescending nickname makes it less funny, imo. Just call us Ohio, you don't have to justify it, it defeats the whole purpose.
November 27th, 2013 at 10:49 AM ^
LOL what? How does using a nickname reek of an inferiority complex? OSU does the same thing.

Yeah? Well that ''inferiority complex'' has run our asses over 8 of the last 9 games and won 6 big ten titles to our none. I'll take whatever they're having, please.

I actually enjoy the "Ohio" and "the team up north" thing. Definitely adds to the rivalry. I could do without the "scUM" and other childlike nicknames, though.
November 27th, 2013 at 11:01 AM ^
as how Urban Meyer apologized profusely and vowed never to do it again after calling us Michigan instead of "That Team Up North," I really don't think inferiority has much to do with it. This game is still fun regardless of where we are in the rankings man. Loosen up, it is Ohio.

At this point I don't think the margin of the loss to Ohio would impact Brandon and Hoke's post-season decisionmaking much at all because too much damage has already been done.
Our offense's performance this year has been the football equivalent of virtually every conceivable embarrassing scenario short of cheating:
1. Getting caught with your pants down by your mother-in-law.
2. Having your mom walk in on you while pleasuring yourself.
3. Having the guy in the next car over catch you as you're digging for gold in your nose.
4. Having your boss tell you your zipper is down.
5. Riding your bike by Charlie's on South U on the way to class, and while you wave at three hot coeds seated at one of the tables, you flip your bike over the curb and taking a facial onto the pavement.
6. Getting called on in class and having no answer because you didn't study.
Goes on and on. This is how Hoke has to feel at this point if he's a true Michigan Man, and Brandon too. This season has been an absolute embarrassment - the worst I can ever recall relative to expectations. The RichRod embarrassments paled in comparison. The App State/Oregon year would have trumped this, but at least that year was tempered by a 38-0 pasting of ND and beating Fryar Tebow and Urbz in the bowl.
Victory this Saturday will be the only thing to impact what should be Hoke and Brandon's temperament heading into this off-season.

Yes, that makes you a bad fan. I am serious.
November 27th, 2013 at 11:07 AM ^
changes are not at all what this program needs. Sweeping changes is what got us here in the first place, and another round of sweeping changes will only ensure we stay here for the foreseeable future. If Borges is replaced so be it, and hopefully it would be successful, but I don't want to an entirely new "regime." At some point you stick with something until it works. Hoke has taken us to and won a BCS game, broke a 4 game streak to State, and broke a 6 game streak to Ohio. His worst season has been better than Rich Rod's best. Don't lose the forest for the trees. This is still happenning.
November 27th, 2013 at 11:15 AM ^
I hate using the term "bad fan" with anyone because people are simply trying to envision scenarios which would suit their perception of the program's needs. However, what I believe you are asking for here is something which would not happen regardless of the outcome on Saturday (strategic changes perhaps, but not wholesale changes). To that end, it makes this an urealistic wish if nothing else.
November 27th, 2013 at 11:21 AM ^
I think there is a threshold level of defeat on Saturday that could result in more changes than we think if exceeded. If the stadium is 60% red, the final score like 60-13, and it being quite clear that nobody on our sideline has the slightest idea what to do could result in something. Like I said, it would have to be historically bad, but I do think that there could be a flatout UNACCEPTABLE kind of loss among the many unacceptable losses that could happen.

November 27th, 2013 at 11:51 AM ^
Yes. Two types.
1. The kind where you lose fairly after giving it your best shot. Perhaps someone should have introduced such a concept to Tressel who apparently found no loss acceptable, even at the expense of his integrity, his reputation and that of your program.
2. The type where after you lose, you realize you're still not a Buckeye or a Buckeye fan. Pretty acceptable to me.
November 27th, 2013 at 12:45 PM ^
The bowl game loss to South Carolina. That was 2 good teams that fought hard, both played well, and one team had the ball at the end and made a good play to win.
Sure, I would have preferred a win, but a loss like that isn't a loss to mope about.
November 27th, 2013 at 1:08 PM ^
Any loss that is close enough to keep ohio from getting votes propelling them into the NC game, considering the Iron Bowl is going on Saturday as well.
Yes, I'm that bitter.
November 27th, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
He was 8-1 coming into Columbus but got pasted 50-14. Canham had no problem asking him to step down!
DB will never do this since Hoke is his coach. Hoke will get to play out his contract. Hoke knows this that's why I think he will give Borges one more year. I'm sure we will lose four again next season then Hoke will dump Borges. So we are quite a ways away from being a good team.
November 27th, 2013 at 1:14 PM ^
Bump was also, like, in his ninth or 10th season as head coach.
P.S. re: this and the other 10 million posts with some variation on "Dave Brandon/Brady Hoke will NEVER blah blah blah."
Nobody but Dave Brandon or Brady Hoke knows what Dave Brandon or Brady Hoke will do, Random Internet Guy. Quit pretending you know shit that you not only don't know, but cannot possibly know.

Dylan, same boat as you. I want what's best for Michigan in the long run... and if it means starting over... again. So be it.

The day you accept less than perfection, is the day you begin accepting mediocrity.
I will never, ever root against the maize 'n blue. But I will also never root for moral victories and to only lose by less than 14 points as this regime currently seems to accept. If that's what you deem to be a true fan, then I'm not the problem.
November 27th, 2013 at 11:37 AM ^
i don't know about "bad fan" as a specific phrase.
i DO know that i absolutely hate being around fans that ever, under any circumstances, root for the kids on the field to get their asses handed to them, whether such idiots think it's better in the long run or not.
go away. please.

If it makes anyone feel better, my season of NCAA Football 2k14 has an unranked Michigan team beating #4 OSU at the big house 34-30 in a simulated game. Let's hope my Xbox 360 would not mislead me with it's virtual predictions.

Beat Ohio (State)!
November 27th, 2013 at 11:13 AM ^
The ideal situation is to win 10-7. We get a field goal and a pick six (with EP of course). Otherwise our offense is awful and gain only about 150 total yards of offense. Our D on the other hand is lights out and we hold them to one TD for the day.
A win, but another reminder of how far our offense has to go.
GO BLUE regardless of the outcome. Just think, if fans gave up on their teams after a bad season or two, MSU wouldn't even have a program anymore.

BEAT OHIO!
And yes, anyone rooting against Michigan in this game because they perceive that a through beat down will lead to regime change is a terrible fan. Root for your freaking team. Beating Ohio would do a hell of a lot more to stabilize our program, build momentum, calm worried recruits (see Peppers) and improve our program's morale than losing by 50, replacing our entire staff yet again, rebuilding yet again and becoming even more of a program that is in chaos.
A big win this weekend changes the whole media narrative from "Michigan Coach yet again on the hot seat as team loses, yet again, to its 'rival'" to "Hoke leads young, inexperienced Michigan team to victory and ruins a potential NC season for its bitter rival." Which headline and resulting narrative going into the bowl and offseason do you think makes it more likely that we keep peppers and close out the upcoming recruiting class successfully?
November 27th, 2013 at 11:55 AM ^
Agreed. I want Borges gone, and I want nothing standin the way of his departure, but there is no way in hell I am rooting against these kids. They have virtually no shot but if they win it will be the greatest upset win in UM history. My breath will not be held however. When you're out talented and out coached, at least go and out class the opposition. Let's hope our team and fans all put their best foot forward even in this dire situation.

Even in the face of insurmountable odds and the knowledge that Michigan has close to no shot to winning this game, all ohio fans still get the obligatory "ohio sucks" and familiar hatred from me for this week. Sun comes up, sun goes down, taxes are paid in April...we all hate ohio. Its just the way it goes.
