This team fought, but man this weekend was terrible. Football team, basketball team, the Lions all losing and I got cockblocked last night fuck this month.

1. GRIII and McGary:  10 points total on 2-8 shooting.  You expect more from two supposed 1st round picks.

2. Maybe Zak Irvin should think about not leading the team in shot attempts.

3. Can LeVert at least pretend to care about defense?

The game just doesn't matter except what the coach and this still, very young team can learn about each other. For everyone whose tender little egos can't handle having them lose and want to write them off: you're pitiful.

Coach B will have them primed for the NCAA's

I'm not giving up on them - it's only 6 games in. But with 2 projected first round picks on this team, plus Nik being our best player, let's just say I've been underwhelmed by this team so far to say the least. We have no impressive wins (let's face it, FSU is our best win and they are a meh ACC team) and now we have a bad loss on a neutral floor to a lousy team. The Iowa St loss is understandable. This is not as much.

To be fair, Stauskas and Robinson were hurt, and McGary and Levert were in foul trouble.  Still, most of the players did not look like they wanted to be there.  I hate Dakich but he was right when he said there was no effort besides Stauskas.

I LIKE the team with less GR3... Huge 3 by Irvin late!
But when that 49er stepped on Nik's foot, causing him to roll his ankle, the writing was on the wall!
Still & all, nice composure in the comebacks, congrats to Charlotte

I agree with everything John Belein is about. But when your team is shooting so poorly, would it hurt to get Mitch some touches in the post?? I think he need's to see a lot more of the ball than he has, especially inside the paint and not hovering around the 3 point line.

Despite every that went wrong, we hit a few more FT's and we win.  That wasn't real fun to watch, but experience for the freshmen will pay off when it counts later in B1G play.

for "one of those years"

People are acting like a game in which GRIII played less than 10 minutes (ESPN box score didn't have mins played tracked) are symptomatic of the program.  "JB can't teach rebounding", we have tempo-free stats that show otherwise historically (at least on the defensive glass).  We have been underwhelmed by GRIII thus far this season but a bone bruise (my best non-medical guess at what is going on) will impact his play.

So everyone on this board loses their mind over 7-4, 9 gajillion Fire (Name) threads and I decry the fact it appears to be a year perhaps, I dunno, a step back and people come to blast that? Going WAY too far the other direction. Explain how it DOESNT look to be a year where the ball doesn't bounce their way, results be damned

Couldn't score.  Couldn't play defense.

Stauskas looks great.  Irvin looked so bad I can't begin to describe it.  Terrible shooting and even worse defense.

Spike looks good on offense and terrible on defense.

We don't have a scoring threat outside of Stauskas.

The B1G will not be fun.

But our guards are allergic to throwing McGary entry passes!  The good news is Beilein coaches this offense, not Al Borges.  He will make the right adjustments.

It's probably time to recalibrate our expectations from "Final Four Contender with two lottery picks" to "Top 5 B1G team with Sweet Sixteen ceiling".  And there's nothing wrong with that.

I just have so much more faith in Beilein than Borges it's not even funny.  In a situation where we were young and shorthanded, Beilein called some brilliant plays out of timeouts.  In addition (and this is my gut feeling) I think he wanted the guards to feed McGary more.  I expect him to make the right adjustments.

things will be ok - the team is adjusting to life without the National POY/1st rd pick, 2 key guys were hurting, McGary is still coming back and the freshmen will get better.  Look at the college b-ball landscape, lots of big name teams losing/being severely challenged at home early this year.  I think the team will start hitting their stride heading into the B1G schedule.

Irvin needs to stop shooting. He made a big basket at the end but the kid was horrible the rest of the game. Where is Robinson? This team misses Burke which was to be expected, but I hate it when the game plan is just to shoot 3's. Go to the rim! What a great Michigan sports weekend this was.

Did you just start watching Beilein teams? As for Irving - he's got to shoot if he's going to succeed. He'll find his shot and you'll be glad he struggled against Charlotte and not MSU. Takes time - rewatch THJ (entire soph year). It's frustrating but I'll take a kid whose willing to shoot even when he's cold because he's confident.

so if our outside shots are not falling, we probably won't win. This game is about as cold as any team could shoot the ball. I haven't checked the stats, but it seemed like we missed a lot of free throws too.

It's a bad loss, but we'll get better.

This may be an odd question, but why haven't we spread the floor and run high ball screens like last year?  Granted we don't have Burke, but we still have capable guards who can drive/dish/attack the rim, and we have at least one shooter.

Our offense looked really crappy tonight, poor shooting aside.  I saw LeVert run a couple nice pick and rolls for easy lay-ups.  More of that please.  Less of Irvin taking one dribble inside the arc and going up with an ugly, low-percentage shot.

Stay calm and stay the course. This team will take time to gel. Meets going to struggle with teams that have good length.

Just wait til February. We are going to be a tough team for anyone to beat.

This weekend can blow me. Literally, just unzip my pants and gurgle.

Wow. Started off so promising. And then football just ruined it.

This is the second time we've been upset by these fuckers. They ruined the 1977 NCAA Tournament run also.

But hey, women's soccer! Good for the ladies, they're dominating out there. Could win it all.

we have no interior defense. McGary was winded the whole game. Levert (our #2 scoring option) was in foul trouble. turrible shooting in the 1st half.

I didn't miss GRIII at all, but Irvin is clearly not ready for the big time.

Honestly, we looked like Duke- they have similar problems.

I see a lot of people playing blame on JB? I mean the only thing he can be criticized for IMO is we don't EVER throw it down low to McGary. Other than that he drew up three plays down the stretch that kept us in the game. Not his fault we couldn't hit a shot.
