Status of the B1G

Submitted by Roy G. Biv on

As I'm watching the M game, I see Nebraska vs. Penn State is on the B1G Network.  Outside of M and OSU, these are the two biggest "name" teams in the conference.  Relegated to being shown on the conference network.  This would seem to be an obvious indictment, especially as it relates to national appeal, of the status of B1G football.

It rotates, with BTN getting first choice a few weeks a year.  So some weeks games you'd expect on ABC/ESPN are on BTN and vice versa.

and as others have noted: MSU and Wisky are on ESPN today, w/ OSU on ABC.  Like it or not, those are the top 3 teams in the conference.  History means diddly squat in terms of who gets what slots at this time of year.  Jockeying for the BW3 and Texas Bowls is hardly a marquee matchup.

I was thinking of top 10 teams. Wisconsin is not there, MSU is right on the cusp I suppose (sigh). But Ohio State is the only team all year who has been in any sort of seriousy BCS title / top 5 discussion. Everyone else pretty much eliminated themselves within the first 4 weeks of the season.

Have you watched other conferences? The Big Ten is decidedly
NOT strong. At best it's the third best Conf behind the SEC and PAC 12. Maybe they are better than the Big 12, but probably not. Who do you think they are better than?

Ohio and Sparty are very good, as is Wiscy. Minnesota is also not terrible - may even get ten wins this season.

Looking around, that puts us on par with the Big 12 and ACC. Yes we're behind the SEC, but we have been for half a decade and who hasn't? Heck the SEC is behind Alabama. I don't think the SEC East is all that but the west is very good.

Pac12 is probably ahead of us too - but not by much. Oregon is good, and Stanford is talented but flawed - I think they're not that far off from Sparty and Ohio. Wiscy played to the wire with ASU, and UCLA is in the same realm as well.

Whatever you wanna say to make you feel better. I hogan football is horrible. It's horrible to watch it's made a horrible name for itself and has a horrible coach and staff. So, call the league bad, ignore the fact MSU and OSU have nfl players on their roster. Try to hide from Wisconsin Iowa or PSU. Do whatever makes you sleep better. The days of big 2 are over and as much as you wish, they aren't coming back. MSU was on ESPN for a reason. Because we don't suck. Oh, and we're not your rival. Hahahahaha
