Michigan - Iowa Game Thread

Submitted by mGrowOld on

I've never done one of these before but it's about 20 minutes to kick-off and none of the usual suspects have stepped forward so I guess it's time.  I'm feeling good about this game and think Michigan wins 24-14.  Meanwhile, over on ESPN Sparty takes on the Cats at noon so we've got plenty of Michigan (the state of)  football to watch early.

Yup. He realized what he had. Ran a good system for Denard et al and Put them in a position to win. Something we know rich rod could not do. I'm not real happy with Hoke right now either, but to say they are now at the same point is not something I agree with. This is assuming of course, Hoke can assess the offense in the off season objectively

UM got blown out in all of their losses his final season. I'm not happy about this team but if you start making those comparisons, you won't be making the point you think you are making

This team is not well prepared or playing well in any phase. 11-2 to 6-7/7-7. There is talent and it is not performing in any phase to the degree necessary to win in this conference? The teen and body of work is in the wrong direction.

I just don't know if I can keep doing this to myself. If the powers that be don't care enough about this football team to make tough decisions and hire competent coaches than why should I care this much about this team.

I just feel terrible for the players. They put their faith and careers in the hands of this staff and those on offense couldn't have been let down more if they had been coached by my grandmothers lawn bowling team. I just don't know what to say anymore.

Assuming a loss next week (and I think that's safe to do,) we're two plays away from being 5-7 with losses to UConn and Akron.

This hasn't just been a bad season, this has been one of the worst seasons in modern Michigan football history.  The only reason that isn't jumping out at people more is because the Rodriguez era distorted our perception of success and failure.  This has been a disaster.

Can a coaching staff rebound, not from a disappointing season but a disatrous season?  I don't think that happens too often.

Except we should have lost to Northwestern to and could easily been 4-8. Gardner is Horrible. Before anybody defends him some of the sacks are his fault because of poor judgement. Turn overs, poor decisions. He just is not the answer. Our two best offensive lineman are gone after this year. If the recruits now start falling we are in a tailspin unti you start over with another coach and he has a few years again. Many top programs such as Alabama, USC etc have gone through this same thing until finally finding the righ coach. 9 years without winning the big ten with no end in sight. 1-5 against MSU and worse against Ohio. We are a bottom program in the Big Ten for the last 6 years now. With the recruiting we have had this is ALL COACHING. My hopes were high for Hoke but he now seems in over his head. I would say unfortunately one more year and if we do not turn this around with beating our rivals and getting to the BIg ten Championship game he should go. 4 years and they are then all his players. He needs to fire Borges and the offensive line coach after the year or all but Mattison need to go after next year. He will not make the tough decisions he needs to. Cannot wait for the day this program is back. It will be someday but I am afraid we have a few more years to wait.

I think the people hating on Gardner are a bunch of shitheads and I hope they defect to OSU. Yes DG should have gone out of bounds, it was a good play by the D.

I still think he can be a very good player, but the guys running the show aren't up for the job.

It was an improved game for Borges but that isn't saying much. Greg Davis probably called a better game, maybe, I don't know, its a toss-up.

At the end of the year DB needs to have a sit-down with Hoke, heart-to-heart and if he doesn't like what he hears i.e. the offensive coaches are doing a great job... it may be time to fire Brady Hoke. Part of it depends on what's available right now.

Gardner is a good young man. Just a very poor quarterback. Count the turnovers this year. He makes poor decisions and to many times takes to long to make decisions. Yes he has a chance to be average with an offensive line and a beeter game plan but he will never be good. Hoke needs to make tough decisions to fire Borges and the offensive line coach or he needs to go.

We needed the win for our psyche, the players' foremost. And maybe a few hundred MGoFollowers.

Urban will do anything possible to run up the score next week to impress voters and win recruits. Not good.

By and large, the Michigan I grew up with made half-time adjustments and owned the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Just discouraging.

The bowl game match up should be interesting.

So sick of hearing about Hoke being a great recruiter.  It's not showing up on the field, in fact I see RR's guys still doing most of the heavy lifting on this team and I fear for next year when our only 2 functional O linemen are gone, our #1 WR is gone, and the Gordons are not making plays on defense anymore.

This is Michigan, I expect top 10 classes every year, and Hoke has delivered, but we have the 15th ranked class so far for 2014, and it's not likely to improve all that much, that's not GREAT recruiting.

Hoke has to be held responsible.

That's because the seniors , the relatively few that are on the team, are RR's guys.  Of course they're doing the 'heavy lifting', they're seniors.

Go back and look at the 2010 class, see how few kids are on the roster now.  RR didn't do well recruiting here. But then of course he had people undermining him, to their everlasting shame.

Most of Hoke's players are RS freshmen or sophomores, and they're playing, including a lot of freshmen.
