I actually want to watch i was pretty young then , but I remember it. BUT...... When they put Denny Green and Dave Brandon up in the god damn booth during the game, I wanted to rip my fuckin eyes out. Promote the goddamn show, but that was ridiculous.
November 16th, 2013 at 7:52 PM ^
Did you see what Canham was like?
November 16th, 2013 at 7:34 PM ^
Fuck Rosenberg.
November 16th, 2013 at 7:35 PM ^
Well, at least the recruits got their money's worth to watch the game.
November 16th, 2013 at 7:37 PM ^
... but I'm having a hard time getting into it because we suck so bad.
Am I the only one?
November 16th, 2013 at 7:40 PM ^
I had no idea that these were the first two black QBs.
November 16th, 2013 at 7:45 PM ^
Why does everything always have to be about race?
November 16th, 2013 at 7:51 PM ^
Is a pretty big deal back then.
November 16th, 2013 at 7:54 PM ^
Right?
November 16th, 2013 at 8:31 PM ^
Because it usually is about race.
November 16th, 2013 at 7:45 PM ^
Ha! Dennis Franklin talking about what would seem to be the hitherto unknown gesture of putting the ball in the air with one hand to celebrate a TD was pretty amusing.
"Ladies and gentleman, can you imagine....this?"
November 16th, 2013 at 7:51 PM ^
Ya. That's pretty good. The U in their hay day would have more celebration for snapping the ball correctly.
November 16th, 2013 at 7:51 PM ^
I didn't know that. If I had to guess I would have thought he was something else but guys were a tad smaller in those days...
November 16th, 2013 at 8:33 PM ^
IIRC he moved around a lot. He came in as a QB, played some DB, then finished at DE. Not entirely uncommon for those days, especially with a stacked roster.
November 16th, 2013 at 7:52 PM ^
When TIEBREAKER is on?
also whether or not it tells the story of the most important event in the history of human kind?
November 16th, 2013 at 7:58 PM ^
I had no idea that a) we had a QB injury that influenced the vote or b) that Bump became Iowa's AD after we shitcanned him.
November 16th, 2013 at 8:35 PM ^
"Shitcanned" is hardly an appropriate word. He stepped down to become the assistant AD at Michigan, then was hired by Iowa a few years later.
He's a legend over there. He hired Hayden Fry and the coach who turned their wrestling team into a national power, among others.
November 16th, 2013 at 8:15 PM ^
Guess i'm glad they got what they deserved 40 years later.
November 16th, 2013 at 8:23 PM ^
Good ending with Bo
November 16th, 2013 at 8:45 PM ^
(11:30 next) but what a perfect end for it. Bo rules.
November 16th, 2013 at 9:58 PM ^
from "The Schembechler Years," a must for all Bo fans.
November 16th, 2013 at 8:25 PM ^
Seeing Michigan then just makes what Michigan currently is even more sickening.
November 16th, 2013 at 8:39 PM ^
Having 100 players on scholarship, all of whom are sophomores, juniors, and seniors, helps matters. The standards of that era really don't apply to this one.
November 16th, 2013 at 11:32 PM ^
Burt Smith just seemed like your typical Sparty piece of shit (and yes, I know, he went to Michigan).
Bob Ufer, as expected, was awesome.
Also, '73 OSU QB Cornelius Greene seems like a class-act.
Interesting to hear Lantry's perspective on that game. You can tell that 40 years later, that game still affects his life and is unfortunutely he knows that he's known as the guy who missed the kick at the end to win the game.
November 16th, 2013 at 10:31 PM ^
I was at the 10-10 game in 73, sophomore year, so fun to watch. Bo's sports coat at the end was straight out of Don Cherry's closet.
November 16th, 2013 at 10:44 PM ^
I had seats at the 45 yard line but row 5. Couldn't see a darn thing with the team standing the whole time. The scoreboards back then had no video so I could only tell how we were doing based on crowd noise. Great experience just being there.
November 16th, 2013 at 10:55 PM ^
That sounds about as frustrating as when my big brother took me to see the Rolling Stones at age 13 in '72 at Cobo Hall. We got down to the floor and right up front but I really couldn't see a damned thing...
November 16th, 2013 at 10:51 PM ^
I would have been high up in the corner of the end zone.
I vaguely remember snow flurries that game but that could have just as easily been 75. I also remember most or even all of those game from 72 to 75 coming down to late field goals, either missed or made, and mostly not in M's favor.
November 17th, 2013 at 8:36 AM ^
Back then a lot of the people in the corner of the endzone were high.
November 16th, 2013 at 10:58 PM ^
Got the DVR on for that one right now. Watching/waiting for the other "tiebreaker" in the USC-Stanford game.
November 16th, 2013 at 11:19 PM ^
I was 10 and thought Michigan was going to pull it out with a FG. The were the better team during the second half. Hard to believe it was so long ago!
November 17th, 2013 at 8:05 AM ^
and had to witness the criminal idiocy of Big Ten rules keeping our '70, '72, '73, and '74 teams home for the holidays, watching this program would be like sticking a rusty spike in my temple. No thanks.
November 17th, 2013 at 8:27 AM ^
I watched it after the game and really liked it. I had no idea so many ADs had UM ties. Makes it even more sad. I think it's hilarious that the B1G wouldn't let the attorney talk about it on camera, 40 years later. And, the individual ADs' recollections of how the vote went down is such a great example of how imperfect memory is!
