i saw about 10 down wasters once we got to the NW 10 yd line.  i thought borges called a decent game until we got to the red zone.  i was harping on this all game "throw the damn ball in the endzone".  he tried it just one time in regulation.  then just one time in OT (the butt TD).

Last drive was a joke. Props for getting fg off, but should have never come to that. Entire offensive staff should be canned. No matter how they recruit this clown circus will never produce an elite product. Borges is garbage.

Give Mattison a raise, and fire Borges immediately. He almost lost another game for us, and I hope that isn't lost in the fact that Michigan got the W. Either way, great finish to a bad game, Go Blue!!!

Coaches deserve props for that.  Then again, that might have been the game winning FG if we kick the tying field goal five minutes earlier.

Not bad considering another monsoon game versus Northwestern.

Then again, that might have been the game winning FG if we kick the tying field goal five minutes earlier.

If we'd tied it up with 5:00, Northwestern would have approached the next possession completely differently.  They also would have gotten a kickoff instead of taking over at their 4-yard line.

You can't assume we'd have gotten the ball back with the score tied.

That's why I kick the FG.  You can't assume we'd get the ball back that late and our 2-minute offense was abysmal last week, so go for the sure thing chip shot FG and trust the D that was good all game long.

Besides, NW moved the ball out to the 30 It's not as if they just ran into a stacked line three times and punted.  They ran their regular offense.  They moved the ball pretty well, converting two first downs, and fortunately we were able to make one big play.  They were three yards short of converting one more time and being able to run out the clock.  Huge gamble by the staff and the defense bailed them out.

Fitz no longer starting.  Green/Smith are both much better, and for better or worse, are the future.  My guess is for the better.  So, a coach had to decide that.

Playcallilng continues to suck pretty hard.

not disregarding but prior to the last few weeks he was finding ways to put points on the board. The offensive problems are more than half growing pains along with DG becoming a shell of himself (until overtime today). The change in DG in OT was nothing short of stunning...he even ran with the authority that' been missing. Was that about play calling or a team developing?

but I'll take it.  How can it be 9-9 and then everything is unleashed in OT?  Well, it helps that NW did not want to intercept ANY balls today.  Either way, I'm happy for the sanity of MGOBLOG and that I will never have to see those atrocious unis again.  My eyes are burning.  No, wait, that was the mirror.  No, let's stick with the uniforms.

what was unleased in OT??  we threw just one pass in the endzone in all of the OTs combined (the butt TD).  we threw one pass in the endzone (incomplete gallon fade) the entire regulation.  redzone playcalling was just mindboggling to me.  DG made some plays with his legs in OT.. there was no unleashing of the offense, imo.

HORRIBLE coaching to go for it on 4th and not have tried a fade on 3rd.  It was like Hoke and Borges made the decision after the failed 3d down.

Fine, be aggressive and go for the TD, but holy crap that whole sequence was bad.

Yup. Have faith in the kids. Gardner picked up a 1st down on 4th and longer later in the game. Ran to the same side, too.

Execution on similar play calls. Plus, Gardner made that same play many times before. OT last year against NW IIRC. Coaches expect this kids to execute when they call a play.

Only happy when we're miserable.

Know what - Fuck it. We won. I'm gonna worry about coaching, o line play, etc later. Tonight I'm going to watch football and drink beer and be happy.
